I know there was a thread on this before but I could not find it. I had a person cancel a Payment from Paypal AFTER I sent the cards. I emailed Paypal and the Buyer with no response yet. Is there anything I can do? Has this happened to you? Any help would be great.

What was the actual text of the email? This could help us to help you sort it out.

It was probably an e-check payment. If you had read the payment notice email it says do not ship till it clears.

Captain - why did you ship on an uncleared payment? And why are you blaming PayPal?

I must have made a mistake. It was not an e-check for sure. I really wasn't blaiming paypal but I was still not aware that a payment could be canceled.

The only way that a payment can be cancelled by the sender is if it is an uncleared e-check or an unclaimed payment. (Such as a credit card payment to a personal account)

Are you sure the payment was made to your registered paypal email address?

A month ago I sent a pymt. to a seller, he left feedback, sent item.

Two days ago he said I sent it to the wrong email address I sent it to a .com addy when his was a .net address.

He and I both thought it was paid but it wouldn't move into his acct.

So I cancelled and resent it to the addy he specified. All worked out fine!

When a customer has an unverified address often the PP payment will be listed as pending with an accept / deny block.

When this happens be sure to accept the payment before shipping.

I had that happen to me once. It was from a payment that I didn't realize that I needed to accept. If you don't accept payments in 30 days of issue, it gets cancelled and the funds returned to the buyer. Just send your buyer an invoice and explain what had happened. In my case, the person resent the money right away.
Hope that works for you.

Aughhh... we got our first comeuppance on this situation .... someone bought 1 ebay item and 2 storefront items from us in early April ... she paid via paypal, unconfirmed address, so of course i 'accepted' it 'cuz i like money anyway i can get it. LOL ... BUT, Paypal reversed the 70-some bucks out of our account last week, informing us that it was a fraudulent credit card. ... i've tried to track down the person, and i can see they have vanished into thin air. ....

We've used paypal since the beginning, and this is the first time anything negative has happened [literally, eh?] ....... but the thing that made me chuckle when it happened, was that i KNEW not to come to THIS board expecting any sympathy. LOL ...
because that's the risk you [and I] take we we hit that "accept" button on nonconfirmed addresses.

I'm sure we'll write it off on our books as a loss/bad debt, so at least we won't have to have it as taxed income.

So what's the advice most sellers would give...Accept payments from unverifed PayPal buyers, or not accept payment via PayPal unless they are verified? Does your opinion change when you check an unverified account that has a fairly high number of transactions through PayPal? I've accepted unverified payments, but maybe I should reconsider if this is happening.

There is a very large percentage of Paypal payments that are unverified or have unconfirmed addresses. If every seller said that they had to be verified and have confirmed addresses or they would refuse payment then PP would have a fit with all the unhappy buyers and sellers.

I miss BillPoint where every payment was verified and had a confirmed payment. Why can't PP do want Biipoint did?

Hey, that could be some kind of crusade. Make PayPal verify every user. No exceptions. Sounds great to me.

To be verified one has to submit their checking account number. I choose not to do that so am unverified and the charge has just been added to my credit card. I have had no problems with any transactions. I am sure there are millions out there who do likewise.

Verified and confirmed - two different things.

A "verified user" has added and verified a bank account to his or her Paypal account. Most U.S. users are verified. Paypal does not verify international users.

A "confirmed shipping address" is the address at which you receive your credit-card bill. Paypal also has an alternative address confirmation process, but will not confirm a PO Box under any circumstances, even if you receive your credit-card statements there. (Some members have reported that they have been able to use PO boxes as confirmed addresses by switching their card statements. I recently checked once again with Paypal and their policy still says flatly "no PO boxes, period."

Many eBay bidders (myself included) work during the day and cannot be at home to recieve packages. That's why they have PO boxes.

My own personal feeling is that if a bidder has a high personal feedback with no negatives for non-payment or other black marks, and a high Paypal transaction count, they are probably safe even with an unconfirmed address. Of course, that describes me pretty well so I would feel that way.

However, I understand that sellers set their own terms. If you don't want any Paypal payments with unconfirmed addresses, just say so up front. AS long as that disclosure is made I have no problem....passing their auctions by to find someone who actually wants my money!

stonecold and auctionace I'd have no problem with Paypal being tougher if they would only acknowledge the fact that there are millions of post-office box holders in this country, and only a small percentage of them are crooks. (The crooks tend to use the commercial box services anyway, many of which provide fake "street addresses" instead of traditional box numbers.)

I totally understand the P O Box holders and people wanting packages sent to friends as gifts and such. So far I've had at least a thousand PP transactions without a problem. The thing that bugs the heck out of me is PP playing 'Cover My Arse' on those transactions which are not a small amount of the total amount of transactions. That leaves the sellers taking a " Chance " because they " Chose " do do so. There was no " Chance " at BillPoint and there is no " Chance " when selling at Half or Amazon.
