this is what shows when you sign in to your PP account.

Choose PayPal Over Checks and Money Orders

Many sellers offer you a choice of payment methods, but it just makes sense to use PayPal. See why PayPal is eBay's preferred payment method:

Checks share your financial information with the seller
Your bank account information is written on the bottom of every check you write, and money order providers have recently had trouble with bad routing numbers. With a PayPal payment, your seller NEVER sees any of your financial information, and our primary interest is your security.

Checks and money orders cost money
It costs an extra $2.95 to send a money order, and sending checks means buying stamps. But it's always free to send money with PayPal.

Checks slow down shipment
Not only do you have to wait for your seller to receive the check or money order in the mail, but sellers will usually wait until personal checks have cleared before shipping your item. But when your seller receives an instant PayPal payment, she can ship your item faster.

Money orders don't provide you with protection

When you send a money order, it's like putting cash in an envelope - you have no recourse if the payment is lost or stolen.

That's why many fraudulent sellers prefer money orders. PayPal provides protections like the Buyer Complaint Process and the Money Back Guarantee to protect you.

When you buy on eBay, don't risk paying with a check or money order; trust PayPal, the fast, easy, and secure way to pay on eBay.

They make it out like if you accept payment by way of checks or money orders, you are a theif.

I noticed this statement while logging into PayPal this afternoon and thought that it is one helluva way to promote themselves. Although I do accept PayPal I have no strong preference but don't think the image they are painting is very realistic or complimentary.

I haven't been into PayPal lately but I would prefer PayPal as their payment as I can get their package out immediately. Of course I take anything that the buyer wants to pay with but if the auction closes and they pay immediately their package goes out the next day. They have their item in 3 days. I don't hold personal checks and I have had no problems. I am sure there will always be one but in all my transactions that is okay. Some banks personal checks clear in 7 days then in others like the bank we use for our household it can take up to 15 days. So how long do you hold them.

LibraI haven't been into Paypal lately?

when you receive a notification of payment from paypal, you do go to the website to make sure the payment is there before shipping don't you?

the way I see it, if we can receive fraudulent emails to get our login and password, we can get fraudulent payment emails.

sometime back I believe there was a thread where the seller received such an email re a very expensive item...yet no payment in Paypal.

Where did this bit of nonsense come from?

MSNBC article points out that some buyers have no protection with paypal EVEN WHEN THEY USED CREDIT CARDS href=http://www.msnbc.com/news/858786.asp?vts=011520030340

Here is a quote from an MSNBC article that says volumes about the "safety" of Paypal. The Nelson in the article is Jay Nelson, also called the John Dillinger of the Internet, who may have stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars in auction fraud.

"Nelson often took payment using online service PayPal.com because the service allowed him to hide his actual location; checks mailed to him as payment were simply returned."

So while on the lam and being sought by authorities, Nelson was able to continue to use paypal to cheat people. So much for "buyer protection."

there are reasons why some folks dont use paypal-
some dont want to charge their purchase to credit cards.
some have a deficit balance in their paypal account and has to be settled before they can use their paypal account again.
some dont have credit cards and dont want their bank accounts to be linked to paypal, some of these folks would be those undergoing divorce or collecting disability benefits.
as for sellers who dont accept paypal,i have dealt with one seller who sell some expensive consigned items and she does not want the messy returns and complaints of paypal as she is just the middleman

I just had an incident where Paypal did not inform me of my bank account verification. The money was sitting and sitting for a week; I went to the profile to check why it wasn't in my bank account.

Didn't have the bank account listed, then had to go through a 2-3 day verification.

So the guy paid with a credit card, the money is sitting waiting to be transfered and PP didn't say squat to me. No email, nothing.
