Since everyone was so helpful on the last two items I posted here, I’m hooked – mostly on how impressive the breadth and depth of your collective knowledge.
Should this little cup and saucer set be correctly called a “Demitasse Set” – or some other more appropriate term?
It has a rich bluish green coloring with an ornate gold decoration covering both the cup and saucer.
I can make out a portion of the artist name and include the image here if anyone can identify further – you would earn a star next to your name in the book of people I owe a debt to –
The beehive – or shield – indicates it’s from Austria or Vienna – I believe. Here’s what I found on that:
Beehive, Austria, or Beehive, Vienna, are terms used in English-speaking countries to refer to the many types of decorated porcelain bearing a mark that looks like a beehive. The mark is actually a shield, viewed upside down. It was first used in 1744 by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Vienna. The firm made porcelains, called Royal Vienna by collectors, until it closed in 1864. Many other German, Austrian, and Japanese factories have reproduced Royal Vienna wares, complete with the original shield or beehive mark. This listing includes the expensive, original Royal Vienna porcelains and many other types of beehive porcelain. The Royal Vienna pieces include that name in the description.
So – since this piece doesn’t carry the name, I guess this isn’t Royal Vienna. Would it be appropriate to list it as “Royal Vienna Style?”
It’s pretty small. The cup measures 2 7/8 inches in diameter and just 1 5/8 inches tall. The ruffled edge saucer is 4 inches in diameter. The bottom of the cup is pierced and hollow with 6 holes circling it. (Does anyone know what to call that treatment or design?)
A raised ridge of dots, highlighted in gold, circle the image in the bottom of the cup. It might be hand-painted, but I’m leaning toward some sort of transfer.
Have you seen anything like this? What kind of listing title would you suggest and any idea of a specific category?
Thanks again for everyone’s help on the English Breakfast Set and the Cobalt Chamberstick that I listed today.
Kind regards,
Wayne

he may be at trade show or he may have taken your piece to the design dept, some pieces are old and no longer made, but they have records of every piece made.
as far as i know, they are keen on researching every piece asked, lastest was a wall pocket made in 1950s.
if you need just an acknowledgement, email him again and ask if he has problem viewing your pictures.

SW - Unfortunately the Austrian connection didn't have a clue what this is or where it might have come from.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to describe this?
I could include mentions of the beehive mark - possibly Royal Vienna - with a partial signature inside -- also detailing the toothpick enamel as was suggested.... It's such a nice piece. I just don't want to list it improperly to get someone's hopes up and not have it come through for them when it arrives.
I think it's worth at least $10 - don't you? Is that realistic?
