Back again to add some interesting stuff to the board – just so everyone can talk positively rather than jump on each other .

And – you’ll be happy to know that the long-awaited Kovel’s book has arrived – but it hasn’t helped with this piece.

Found this little candle stick thingy at an estate sale – still going through things that I bid on and don’t know what to do with – very much appreciating your patience, understanding and help in getting them out onto eBay to see what the market will bear…

Anyway, this porcelain candlestick is covered in gold and has a pretty decorative design under the paint – sort of gives it that gold on gold look.

It has a maker’s mark – Eamag – with a crown and “Bavaria”. Can’t seem to locate anything to help out in Kovel’s. Here’s the mark on the bottom:

Its base is 3.75 inches in diameter and stands 1.5 inches tall. The top is 1.75 inches in diameter and the hole measures about .75 inches in diameter.

Any guidance – even in pointing me to any Web sites to help locate Eamag, would be appreciated.

Kind regards and thank you in advance for your help.

Wayne

Have you done a search for this mark on ebay and also other pottery sites, and google.com?

I'm familiar with a Czechoslovakian mark (and I get a gold star for spelling this without a dictionary!) called "Epiag," which my daughter in law inherited and is trying to get more of. I wonder if these two marks could be related in some way?

That's a fascinating way to address the very people you are hoping to help you appraise your goods.

I've tried eBay - just 2 listings and it's not close to the look of this mark.

I've also tried Google - with little luck there, either.

I try not to bug people on this board until I've exhausted all other research channels.

Anyone have any other thoughts on where I might find out more?

Thank again for any assistance.

Kind regards,

Wayne

Fluffy -- didn't mean to offend anyone - just an observation that there have been an inordinate amount of hostility recently.

Not really looking for a monetary "appraisal" just to learn more about the piece so I can provide a better description.

My Kovels has the mark as:

Schonwald Porcelain Factory/E. & A. Muller Porcelain Factory

Schonwald Bavaria, Germany (W.Germany)

ca.1911 - ca.1945 (1898 - present)

(under various names, now Hutschenreuther AG)

As for the hostility and controversy on this board, I enjoy it. If I wanted all nicey-nice and handholding and a**kissing I would have bailed to that other board when the CC requirement came about.

Kiara,

You're right - don't need all the huggy-kissy stuff -- but many people have been downright nice to some who come here - who probably should have been kicked in the butt and told to go learn some basics - then come back to the conversation...

That said - thanks for the heads-up on the mark.

Which Kovel's book are you looking in?

I just got their new 2003 price guide - not using it for prices though... Just to give me some guidance on what not to buy - and to get the research done myself and relying less on the kindness of others .

Help me understand:
ca.1911 - ca.1945 (1898 - present)
I understand the "between 1911-1945" but how do I interpret the extra "1898 - present"?

Thanks, Kiara, for all of your help and generosity of knowledge.

(1898 - present) is the years the factory was/is in operation.

If you want a good book you should purchase Kovels' New Dictionary of Marks. I have had mine for years and use it almost daily.

BTW, you are welcome. lol .....

I,,,,,,,would love to see a block poster feature. Like on e bay. Don't like the looks of the potential bidders questioning e mail(s), sounds stupid, asks a question that is right in the auction, how much is shipping? Reads nothing, on and on and on. Blocked bidder list!!! Same here.

Don't care for a certain poster popping in to interupt your conversations, blocked poster list.

Oh you COULD unblock the undesirable at any time but once they have proven to have dumb remarks who would ever want to? Who knows maybe even Fetish is considered undesirable by some. No problem put her on your blocked poster list and poof. End of problem.

Any and all comments are surely appreciated. Better sense than the stupid "Ignore" feature. That IS totally dumb!!!!!! Why, would anyone NOT, want to know what was being said about them?

There is an ignore feature on these boards. Merely click on the name of a poster and select ignore. The feature turns off hen your're not logged in so be sure you're logged in before you read the boards.

Did you read what I said ACE? That ignore is a joke. Ignore stops YOU from seeing what everyone is bad mouthing YOU about. So DUMB. Why Would YOU not want to see what Someone is saying a bout you? Kind of like an Ostridge sticking it's head in the sand only to have your A$$ shot off.

And you have all of 38 posts to your name.

If you think this is hostile, well, like Al Jolson said, "You ain't seen nuthin' yet!"

So Fetish - ratherr than just ignoring those whom you do not particularly care for you are hoping to censor their comments entirely and deny others of potentially educational information? Try ignore - I really don't need you to decide whose knowledge and opinions I should and should not be allowed to read on any topic.

Ace,,,,,TEST. You are now on ignore. Nothing personal. Just a test. now say anything to fetish. I hope it's nice, however, I, will never know as you could be calling me the biggest moron in the world. See, now does ignore make any sense? No! plain dumb.

I suppose we could go on with this for days and days. Sooner or later someone is going to have to concede the last word to the other person! Let's stick a fork in this; it's done.

Great idea Roadsmith. If I were president, I'd fire Collin Powell and hire you to replace him.

Just one question even though this thread is pronounced done...Kiara what is the CC requirement?

I agree to liking it told how it is though sometimes I would like a ref to throw a flag for unnecessary roughness....don't like it when posters deliberately hurt other posters...and Fluffy you have been the recipient of many below the belt punches.

I love a heated debate though and if you all dont mind the punches I guess i don't mind (just don't aim them this way please)
