I have an Epson 1200U scanner and would like to scan 3 or 4 postcards at one time. Then, one card at a time... frame, name and send the individual image to my hard drive. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance for your help.

it all depends on your editing software. you should be able to select a section of the completed scan, copy it, open a new file and paste the copied image into the new file but since I don't know what software you are using, don't quote me.

My Visioneer allows me to do this but it is the software that came with it. I don't know if you can purchase software separately for this function or not.

When you set a postcard up to scan, click on preview. Then, draw a box around the first postcard. If your program puts a little number one at the top corner of that portion then it is ready for you to draw another box around the second one, etc.

Then, when you click scan it will scan them in as three separate photo's.

I place as many small objects as I can on the scanner and do the scan. Next I crop out one item and name it. Next I right button-click hit the Undo function and the original image with all objects appears. I next crop out the next object and repeat the process. The software has to allow the undo fuction for this to work though.

I use a Microtek scanner/XP operating system:

I actually do 3 or 4 separate scans: I place three horizontal or 4 vertical pc's on my scanner bed at one time, do a preview and then frame each pc, name it and send to "my images" (windows xp) - i upload to vendio from "my images". I don't do any editing or cropping - i draw the frame a little outside the edges of the postcard so the pc is "framed" in the black of my scanner bed.

I name the files in declining alpha numeric order so that the newest scans are always on the top in Vendio and easy to find when i list.

I also use an Epson 1200U. Here's how I scan the postcards I list. (Others have touched on some or all of these steps, but didn't state if they use an Epson 1200U, so maybe this will speak more directly to your problem if you are using Epson TWAIN 5 which came with the scanner.) You can arrange however many cards wil fit on the screen of the scanner. Close the cover carefully so the images won't get out of line. Using the "controls" on the TWAIN dialog box, set it for "Flatbed", "Color Photo", and "Screen/Web". The resolution should set itself for 96 when you choose "Screen/Web" (you don't need higher rresolution for Web use). Then click on the "Preview" button (there are two of them in TWAIN 5 - use the one on the left). The scanner will produce a preview image of all your items in the window on the right side of the TWAIN dialog box. Hold-click and drag to enclose what you want of one of the images. If you don't get it exactly right, you can move the dotted line to add or include, or you can just click and redraw the box. Then set the Scale - I have found with postcards that 100% (the default) works just fine - you might want to make them larger or smaller. (DO NOT open the scanner lid and remove the items until you have finished the actual scanning process with all the previewed images - the items must be still on the scanner glass in the same position as when they were previewed!) Now click the "Scan" button and the scanner will do its thing for the image you have just boxed. (I use the Epson TWAIN from inside my image editing program - PhotoImpact 7 - which is where it deposits the scanned image. I don't know what program, if any, you are using so I can't help on that aspect.) After the first image is scanned, go back to the preview screen, drag a box around another image, and repeat the process. When you have individually scanned all the images, you can then open the scanner cover, remove the items, arrange some new ones, and repeat the process. When you have finished scanning you can go to wherever you have the images filed, manipulate them as necessary with whatever image editor you use, and upload them either directly or by adding them to your Sales Manager image list and uploading them next time you Synch.

Good luck and have fun!

I have a question about Sales Manager Pro..I tried to use it once and it seemed like it wanted to synch all 4300 of my stored images...is that what it does? is there a way to prevent that? I have just been using the regular Sales Manager because of this synching thing..

If you haven't been using Sales Manager the first time you do it will sync everything. Best workaround is let it do it while you sleep.

But then i have all 4300 of those images on my hard drive?? I don't really want them clogging up things! is sales manager pro that much better/faster than on-line sales manager?

What is the average size of your pictures? If it is 50k then it would only be a little over 200 meg.
If you don't have that much extra space then it would probably be a good idea to add another hard drive.
I would really hate to have to go back to listing online. Just finding the right picture saves a lot of time.
You can also schedule 5 minute intervals.

I guess the average size is 75K...i already have them saved to hard drive though (i make cds of them after a few months and clear them out)..who knows how much room i have left..kids have been going crazy at KAZAA (ok me too )..if sales manager pro is that much better i guess i should give it a try. Do you go in an purge your images periodically then?

To see how much space you have, click on "my computer" then "C drive" It should say one the left side. (this is on windows ME. If it is different on other operating systems then I don't know how to check it.)
I usually have around 2000 images and just let them delete themselves.

I use paint shp pro and it is real simle to do it. You can have it scan directly into PSP then just use the selection box and circle the part you want seperate. Then just cut and paste. Repeat for each post card in the scan.
Any software that has the selection box should work similar.
You might also want to click the options box before saving and set the compression higher. It seems to be able to go to arond 40 before starting to blur the picture much. This makes the file size much smaller.

I have an epson 610...I hope the software has improved...I hate my scanner software.
The quickest way is three scans and three crops. But if you can do as LindaJean mentioned....genius!!!
If you can download Photoshops cheapy version party on!
Best
