Bought this today (don't know what I was thinking) at the flea market for $3. The disk spins when the item is plugged in and is really wild. It also glows under a black light. Now, I remember black lights, but don't remember ever having one of these things. What would you call it (seriously, folks) and what would you list it under? I think it's more 60's or early 70's. Yes, I know when people were most likely to use it .

I'd list it where the black light posters and/or black light bulbs are.If they are looking for those 2 items they will find this interesting .I have no idea what it's called.

Well, back in the 60's, WE used to call it:

Groooovey & far-out,man!

They were used to enhance certain pharmaceutical adventures. A big party item. Those were the days...

Got that right. I'd call it a psychedelic spinning dohickey thigamajiga.

I don't recall anything like that ( of course now that I think of it...can't remember a lot of things from the flower child days). It looks to me more like someone's 1990s IDEA of the 60s-70s - are you sure it isn't a newer retro thingamabob?

Here's an idea:

Since people probably won't find this using any of the words that would be appropriate to list it under -- how about using some creativity once you have it listed in the category or categories that would have people looking for this type of "remember when we..." thing going....

So - if you list it where the blacklight things are - or '70s stuff - why don't you use something like:

Far out! I didn't know it looked like this

Then, write your listing that would include some of the 70s lingo that would get people to your auction -- like, Groovy, psychedelic, Peace, Hippies, etc.

Just a thought.

LOL. I remember "better living through modern chemistry". It's a wonder we survived. And the spinning pink thing I do remember. I knew a guy who sat mesmerized by a green one for hours and hours.

I just noticed the E under the top peace sign. This is not an older piece, this is relatively recent playing on the old retro themes, Extasy just was not that big back in the sixties - definatly not something whose presence would have been acknowledged in a merchandise item such as this one. Defiately put Rave in the description.

I agree, this looks like something from the black light section in Spencer's Gifts at the mall.
Kids like the stuff though.

Also look at the design of the foot...that is so much later. I bet there is a web site on design, and that plasic molded stand is much later...just a hunch.

Boy, you are creative. Great idea!

Actually, my boyfriend recognized it. I didn't ask him how. Now I'm beginning to wonder.

My son has been eyeing it ever since I brought it home. I may use it as a blackmail item. I'm preparing a list of "to-dos" for him. You know, things like clean the basement, empty the attic, pull the weeds and oh, yes, straighten up the eBay room. Once every plate, knife, spoon, fork, bowl and glass is removed from under his bed and returned to its rightful place in the kitchen cupboard, it's his! LOL.

Thanks, all.

I bought one of these at Spencers Gifts in the local mall about 5 years ago. It was a lot more than $3, you got a good buy. It looks amazing spinning under a black light.
