I'm not a volume seller, but I do have a few things going just about all the time. It's been a long dry spell for me. Stuff just not selling. Anybody else seeing a drop in sales? I do mostly books and one brand of discontinued pottery.

Most of what I sell doesn't get bids until the last few hours of the auction, so at this point I couldn't tell ya most of what I have left running has too much time on it.The stuff going off is being bidding in.

Mine are so, so. Seems to be picking up but last week was the worst.
I'm thinking that was because of graduations.

Most buyers will now have more free time but we do have to deal with vacations, always something !

I had several (6) BIN auctions sell this weekend and have a bid on another auction. That is fairly well since I only had 26 running. It is strange how you go a week with almost no bids then one week with several. I have 33 listed right now and only the one with a bid. With things so slow I am not up to full speed, I try to have about 60-70 auctions running.

On top of slow selling is slow paying. One BIN (last week) from Germany keeps saying she has wired money with Western Union but won't give me a confirmation number on tranaction. I have filed more NPB & FVFs than ever. I will be glad when ebay puts the BIN auctions where the the auction doesn't end until the buyer has paid. I heard this is what they are going to do. Guess this is off the thread subject....sorry.

The large amount of bidding in the last few hours seems to indicate that those are veteran bidders that do so. It is very important that new bidders are constantly arriving at ebay as well. Ebay is slowly becoming a lot like Yahoo Auctions. On Yahoo almost everything that gets sold is sold with a lone bid and bidding wars are very rare.
Unless the ebay item is a hard to find collectible or a quality item started at a very low start bid there is little multiple bidding on items. With that in mind, a good selling strategy at ebay may be to do what the Yahoo sellers are forced to do, set the start price at a price they are willing to live with and hope, but not expect multiple bids. The BIN strategy is worth the extra nickle on most items to snag an impatient or impulsive buyer.

Thanks for all your input. I, too, have experienced very few true auctions. I can think of only a couple of items that had more than one bid. It's not as good as it used to be, but it's better than having a yard sale!!!!!!!

I had my best week ever last week. Made more than I make in a week at work. But, I'm not foolish enough to count on that to last. I was just fortunate enough to have come across some things people really wanted. It's hard to tell from week-to-week.

Up until this week I was running 30 to 40%. This week, so far, I only have bids on 20 out of 335 under one id and 4 out of 80 on the other.

With records and postcards, I seem to lose all bidders completely when I offer BIN. Even when I offer it at only $.01 over opening bid. At least for my bidders, they just don't seem to like or understand the BIN concept.

Lately when researching closed auctions I'm astounded at the large number of auctions of good items that started at one cent without a reserve and fair s/h AND didn't receive a single bid. Buyers may see it as a trick or something but the seller is out of a 30 cent insertion fee and maybe gains a hopelessness of selling on ebay feeling.

I wonder if ebay doesn't somewhat track these types of unsuccessful auctions to see the general results of selling on their venue?

Unless they are asking $5 to $10 shipping for a small item, I would definitely have a hopeless feeling if I listed items for a penny and didn't even get a bid!

I've had a great month. Watched an old advertising item jump from $40.00 something
(where it sat all week)
to $168.00 in the last 4 hours...LOVE those Japanese bidders!! Also upped my opening bids to $19.99 and $24.99 on many items and they got as much attention ( and bids) as my old ( boring) $9.99 openings. Only one item out of 50 did not sell last week...I was very happy! This week is starting out pretty good too!

Strange week, several items went way high, others that should have brought bids didn't do anything.
I'll just keep plugging along and hope for the best.

I'm doing very good selling an item with a feature plus ad with a BIN and with free shipping. But I found out that you should list more than you have because several bidders hit the BIN button twice and they only want one.

UGH! BAD! I think my listings got buried under all the half price listings... hopefully buyers will find them when they come close to ending..that's assuming that there ARE postcard buyers on PC's this time of year... good time for some R & R!

I'm selling better than 75% but I don't have the very high-end stuff, either. What's odd is that Half.com has suddenly picked up for me. I don't have that many books listed with them, and I'm selling almost one a day, which is more than in the past few months.

That bad weather in the midwest and east about a week ago was very very good to me. I guess people were sitting at home, peering out the window at the weather and feeling bored and grumpy. I've never had so many midwestern buyers before.

I always sell between 90 & 100% of everything I list which is rubber stamps. I don't know why, but they are very popular. The majority of my buyers are newbys which is probably why my sell rate is so high.
Also a lot of buyers bid on more than one stamp & that helps a lot.

I sell high end Native American artifacts and Pre-Columbian art and my sales have been pretty consistent at 75% with an average of 20 items listed. Last week I started using BIN for the first time and my customers are buying faster than I can supply. Sure would be nice if this kept up, but I am hearing rumors of a summer slow down. Say it isn't soooo...........

My sales last week ssuuuuucked like a hoover.
I usually have one or two items on, and sell one or both. last week i put up five and sold one. There must be something wrong with my new template, anyone want to take a look and critique it for me?

I don't have anything up this week beacuse I'll be gone for ten days. I'll put up a couple ten day auctions Friday, i guess.

Magic Mom: what a WUNDERFUUUUL auction!

Very creative & delightfully whimiscal! And...what true works of ART!

ONLY thing I would change: it is a total waste of moola to stick a RESERVE on an item this inexpensive -- you're really throwing the ole magic moola out da window!

Folks HATE reserve auctions, even when they be NECESSARY! It ain't necessary with yer wands!

By now, you should have a good idea of the reasonable minimum selling prices for these delights...What, say $25, give or take??

I think you'd do better, just listing them for yer ultimate minimum "suicide" price & let the sticks fall as they may (so's to speak)!

such sweet words, Tom!
actually the bin is pretty much the minimum.
AS far as I am concerned, at least. These days there are bandwagonjumpers who are selling (I have to admit it) pretty nice product for as little as $5.00. Maybe they live in their mom's basement or something. My peices are one-of-a-kind, dangit! they is art!

If you're seeing slow sales, are you offering the same old thing?

I wonder. I'm getting new-to-me merchandise in every week and the regulars are snapping it up as fast as I can list it.

The stuff I bought a few months ago is languishing.

There are people out there with money (or access to a credit line) and they want to buy stuff. Maybe you can take a risk and try something new?

buy it now-
for some items, capping the price of an item with buy it now which is not too far from the starting bid makes it less attractive to some treasure hunters as they figure 'is this all it is worth'?? and lose interest!!

Seems about normal to me, this is my 7 or 8 summer on eBay - it is a time to reorganize, update ads, and sell. We do major inventory sales in the summer to reduce stock, for incoming fall inventory.

I ONLY use "Fixed Price," have no patience awaiting a long bidding period. But, this is a personal preference.

Best of wishes to all sellers - it gets better again in the fall - use this time to organize and create better ads.
