I can NOT find my old kovels book of marks. I have searched high and low in this place. Does anyone know of a specific company that used that mark on ceramic bowls???? I can try to scan it later if it is helpful.

Is there a new edition of kovels marks out that I should be trying to get instead of searching for my old one?

You really need to post a picture of it to get a good answer. In the meantime, check out Harker pottery. I think they had a bunch of stuff with that marking.

If memory serves me well and it is occasionally wrong, I think CorningWare used that mark, maybe they still do. Others may have as well.

Except Corning is a glass company and I do not think they ever made pottery. Anchor Hocking - another glass company - also used Oven proof as did others. Think something more specific is needed.

Watt used it too. Really need a picture of the mark to tell who's it is.

WHEW! I took the fotos, uploaded them and here they are! I truly would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks ahead of time for all of your help. I DID find my kovels and there is nothing in here about this mark.

A goodly number of companies made these. I have 2 in my kitchen cabinet that I use all the time.. One with a handle ( identical to the one shown)is marked "hull oven proof U.S.A. The oven proof and USA is stamped the same way. I also have one without a handle marked Hull 7016 but no oven proof. I use both these in my microwave by the way. They are not worth very much. Proably too common.

After the second post about Hull, I grabbed my son and went to the library. No books. Then I went to the local HUGE book store, no Hull books there either. I searched every single reference book on the subject I could find. Couldnt find anything

Please Please tell me what you all are using for reference books I think my kovels is probably out-dated (1986) and I could use a few more good reference books. any suggestions? Please!!!

I think the 1986 Kovels is the newest... At least the newest I've seen -- mine just arrived today! Ordered my first Kovel's directly from them in OH -- took 10 days. Ordered my second from Amazon - got it cheaper and it got here in 2 days!

I knew I'd seen that mark some place!!! Its on the bottom of my cereal bowl. The wife has a bunch of it we use everyday. We have bought replacment bowls & plates for a a few dollars at yard sales. We've seen the gravy dish, platter, assorted serving dishes, and other special pieces listed at 15 -50 bucks. Ours came from Penny's Dept Stores years ago.

I saw a whole set of the stuff at a rummage sale 2 months ago. I think there was a large covered pot, small dishes to put under the bowls and the bowls. Maybe the large covered pot was a bean pot. Might also mention that McCoy also made this type of brown ware. I looked again at the ones I have and the one without the handle is marked McCoy.

It looks to me like a french onion soup bowl that you would put in the oven to melt the cheese.

I picked this up at a second hand sale because I remembered something about how "oven proof" was written. That style of writing those words was a famous maker. I don't know if my memory is failing or what. I am not even a senior yet. Too young for a senior moment. But then again! .....

This is really a puzzle

My vote is Hull - I have the same bowls (soup-I think) and a gravy boat but only the gravy has Hull on it but the lettering on all pieces are the same down to the large S in USA.
Now I'm going to post a photo for some help if I can figure out how to post it.
Thanks

I believe it is Hull also. If you check other auctions you will find the mark with the writing the same.

Is there a way to figure out who the mfg of the various brown drip patterns by the style and color of the drip? My grandmother had some too. Some of hers was marked McCoy, some Hull and some had no marks. But I was able to tell that they were not all the same pattern and color.
