Since the 4th of July holiday is coming this week, would you hold back on listings expecting things to pick up more - more bidders, etc. - maybe until the week after July 4?

Wondering if you could take another view on this and say that people will have more time off and might be spending it shopping on eBay?

Or, will that time off be spent in the sun on the beach?

How are you going to handle the coming holiday? More listings? Fewer listings? "Summer Special" - written all over your listings?

Whaddya think?

I'm not listing anything until July 1 and then I am running a batch of 10 day listings where I normally only run 7 day ads. If it does as poorly as last week I will be through for the summer.

We go through this before every major holiday and my perception is that people who try to time the market end up shafting themselves.

We sell all day, every day. The only exception is we don't list anything to end on Friday afternoon. I'm willing to lose a few potential sales there.

Good thoughts, Fluffy. I was thinking the same thing...

We're just really getting started and have the same thoughts.

Also, we've now adopted a summer policy that if we list it 2x and it still doesn't sell, then we'll list it again in the fall. No sale there - then it goes to a flea market.

Actually I never list much in summer. I take advantage of that time to restock, sort, and have a little fun with the family.

I listed over 400 for the half price and while I was running 30 to 35% the week before, the auctions ending today and yesterday only ran 15% sell through so it wasn't really worth my trouble.

I like to keep a few going all the time just so I don't get "forgotten" by customers. But, the next month at least will be pretty slow.

Plus, I am transferring all my ads to Vendio from another service so that is slowing me down a little.

Edited to add: They were new listings and the same age, quality and type of postcard I had been listing before.

Anyone else taking a break over the July 4 holiday -- and what do you expect for sales during that time?

It might be a good time to experiment with fixed price listings. They're half price today, and the ending date doesn't matter so much. You'll sell just as much tonight and tomorrow as you will as we slide into the 4th holiday.

Why wait 7 days to sell what you could be selling tonight?

I plan to breathe a little this next week, go a little slower, but I'm going to list a bunch to start, 7-day, on Sunday, July 6th. I'm still having pretty good success with my auctions (75-80%), but I'm selling low-end things only right now and starting them low. As I've said many times before, I'm glad I'm not trying to support a family on my ebay earnings, listing 20-30 items a week!
