Here's one for those out there more experinced than I. It's a Paypal related mystery. I have 2 seller accounts. 2 separate user ID's on Ebay, each with their own distinct e-mail. 1 for A items, the other for B items. The A account is my master account with Paypal. I've sold hundreds of items under the B account. All the payments and payment notifications went to the B account e-mail. All correspondence between me and the bidders(buyers) went to the B account e-mail. Now I have received a payment as usual to the B account and e-mail. Here's the mystery. The buyer sent a follow-up question to my A account e-mail. How did they know this A account e-mail. Is this revealed by Paypal, maybe because it's the master account, or is there a way of snooping around to find someone's different accounts and e-mails.

Thank you for all the help and insight. I rarely come to this board for help, I'm usually the one offering help, but it's nice to know I can count on this board when I do ask.

I have only 2 Paypal accounts, A and B. In this case the buyer that bought from B had never purchased anything from A. There had never been any e-mail between buyer and A or B in the past.
.
.
Toasted.....I thought of that....and I did call Paypal expecting their tech people to be of assistance. They were no help at all. Apparantly they've been merged with Ebay long enough to the point where customer service is comparable. The best they could come up with was that e-mail addresses were in the public domain, which of course doesn't answer my question. Paypal recommended that I ask the bidder, which I did not want to do. Obviously if there's some sort of hacking way to get the info, I wasn't going to get an answer from the buyer. After the lack of response here, I finally did ask the buyer, who told me that the info was available on the "details" link on Paypal.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that likes to keep separate user ID's for many different reasons. If what buyer told me is true, It looks like there may be a way here for people to find a link between user ID's. Maybe some of the buyers out there who use Paypal could check on the info that is available on the details link. Does it specifically show the master account?

Do you keep the funds from A & B separate? If so I can't give you an answer. I have 2 eBay ID's but only one P/P acct. Therefore anyone who use eBay B & pays with P/P will get an email from my primary email which is linked to ebay A, as this is the only email ID that P/P has for me.

if you have just one paypal account but different emails under that account, then in fact you just have one paypal account, not two.
2 paypal accounts would have 2 diff bank accounts linked to it,you cannot share bank account .

It's amazing how little a company knows about there own service....I think they should have gone out of their way to answer this question because you want to keep account A separate from account B or you wouldn't have 2 accounts to begin with. Why on earth would they be linked together. Two accounts ...two different e-mails and I assume two different bank accounts that you deposit your money in.Thats should be a Privacy issue i would think. They let someone have your information without you knowing.

Pointy, what's this master account bull?
I have one paypal account with two email IDs on it. A buyer paying to either email address goes into the one account.

The payments go to the email you give the buyer, but it all drops into the one paypal account no matter how many email addys you have on that account.

I don't think you understand what you have with paypal. Master account?

Pointy, by any chance do you have your "customer service" email listed as the same one for both accounts?

I too have a couple of ID's that tie in with the same Paypal account and I've had this happen. I hope I can explain this and have it make sense. Account "A" is your master email address with Paypal. You have also linked email "B". Even though you were paid on the email address "B" it is still linked to "A". Once a person has paid you, if they go back to their paypal account later it will show your master account email address under their "completed" details.

not sure I can answer either,
I have 2 seperate selling id's for ebay with 2 different email address
I also have 2 different PP accounts, each set up with a different email address from which the seller account on ebay.
That way I can keep payments straight.
I have one account on ebay that I use more then the other one, so I would call that my master acct, and the email address for the acct on paypal would be my master/main acct, as I use that acct more, then the other.

I would also like to know more about the details that your buyer spoke of.???

.
.Thank you Karen....That's exactly what I wanted to know and I think that this is the clearest explanation. I have one account with Paypal, one bank account, but 2 e-mail addresses(each with a different User ID on Ebay) that people can send payments to. In the past everything had run smoothly......i.e. if I sold something on e-mail B, the payment was sent to e-mail B AND ALL CORRESPONDING E-MAIL BETWEEN BUYER AND ME WENT THROUGH E-MAIL B. What was the mystery to me here was that in this case, I received my payment notification as normal from Paypal to e-mail B, yet the buyer sent a follow-up question to e-mail A. I thought that e-mail A(and the associated user ID on Ebay) was unknown to those that bought from e-mail B(and the user ID associated with B). Apparantly it's not.
.
.
.You see, in my case, e-mail A(and user ID A) is a dealer. e-mail B(and user ID B) is someone who doesn't have a clue. It's marketing. I've found that some products do better if coming from a professional dealer. Others bring a higher price if people think they're dealing with an idiot who doesn't know what they have.

.
.
Thank you all for contributing, and if anyone has an idea on how to really keep things secret in a case like mine, please share. The only suggestion that Paypal techies had was to set up account C, and make that the master account(sorry whining, but you've got to deal with the master account stuff...it's Paypal-speak, not me). I didn't like this suggestion as I thought it would only add to the confusion amongst the buyers.

I think I've found the answer to my own question. If you really want 2 completely separate accounts that people can not link, you have to go ahead and register 2 separate accounts with Paypal. I suspect that you would need 2 different bank accounts, 2 different credit cards, perhaps even 2 separate names and addresses. Even then, I'm not sure that a link couldn't be found, or that Paypal would even allow such an arrangment. I may have to endure another call with the Paypal techies.

PayPal members may register for one personal account and one Premier or Business account. You may also add additional email addresses, street addresses, credit cards and bank accounts to your Personal, Premier, or Business account, however, no account may contain duplicate email addresses or financial information. If only one account is needed you may also upgrade to a Premier or Business account.

you can set up a new paypal account for your wife or mother or someone in your family,it is okay to have the same address as yours as long as the bank account is different, email addr is different and the name on the account is different.
there are family of sellers on ebay who use paypal,so same addr is not a problem ,but they must have diff bank accounts.
