My weekly virus scan picked a Klez 32 worm last night. It was quarantined so no damage was done. I think it came from some spam that got through. If not there, then from an inquiry on an auction. I had several in the past 2 days.

Do most Virus Scanners pick up trojans or worms? Or do you need another software for that?

They pick up most if you keep them updated... just having anti-virus software installed is good for about 90 days after that without updates it becomes useless, because there are new viruses all the time.

I seem to get about 1 a day. I am using my ISP's virus protection so they never hit my mailbox thank goodness. The only thing I get is a notice that I received one and they got rid of it. They send me the information of the subject and email address. It is those emails that are addressed to every Tom, Dick and Harry that get to me and I mean that literally. Most are from porno sites and I have never visited one. Also Yahoo email is good for that because that email is free everyone uses it.

As for antivirus progams, you have to keep them updated. I use Norton A/V & have just renewed for 2 more years. It will automatically update whenever there is a new virus or worm.

But some a/v software doesnt pick up trojans.
I had some crap called syphillis worm or something on my computer, and the a/v software never picked it up. And I think my a/v software is good, trend micro. The trojan was located in a LAVASOFT program I had d/l'd for free. On a whim, I tried an anti trojan software and that found it. I knew something was up because my desktop was acting erratic.

Oh no! Neroter12- you said Lavasoft is a trojan. Are you talking about Lavasoft's Ad-aware program? I downloaded that program from Download.com thinking it would keep spyware off my computer.

What is the best anti-virus program? I have Trend Micro right now, but neroter12 just said that it didn't catch Lavasoft's trojan. I heard that Norton doesn't always catch viruses either. Any ideas?

I use AVG. (grisoft.com). It has picked up and healed a Trojan Horse virus. Also catches Klez. It's a great program, and best of all, it's FREE. It's a UK program trying to get a foot in the door in the US.
