Has this ever happened to you?

I have an item, that I have had for at least 4 months now. It has gone to auction at least 8 times, and every single time someone wins the auction there is a problem.

The latest is a newbie who did a buy it now today. He emails me instantly to tell me he would pay for the item on Wednesday. Then he follows up an hour later telling me that he went to the bank and his bank is going to hold his check for 5-10 days. I start investigating, and of course, he has only won 75 auctions (this is not an exaggeration) in the last week.

Two weeks ago this item was listed, and a sniper bid on it at the last moment. I get an email from him telling me that his "child" placed the bid, and he wasn't going to pay for it.

There have been 4 other times that this auction has been won, and the bidder didn't pay for it.

One time, someone won it, paid for it, I shipped it, and it was too small. So they returned it and exchanged it for the next size up.

I've had this happen before, but not to the caliber as this particular item. I think 3 times was the max that I had an item that got relisted. Fortunately, the last time around I got double the money for it. This won't happen with this item because it isn't on the same calibur.

Now my curiosity has been peaked? What is the item and are we talking big money for it? Maybe it's just cursed and you should just donate it to the Salvation Army.

Well I don't think Michael Jordan is very collectible any more. I think if had stayed with the Bulls instead of moving around and then trying baseball his items would go much higher. That's what happens when you think you are much better than you are.

I hope you filed for FVF and placed a neg: "Warning, allows his child to bid with his password!"

Libra - with a few exceptions, all sports collectibles drop in value once the figure retires. Interest drops if people don't see and hear about them and with it drops demand and value. On the flip side - check out LeBron James items.... kid has not played a game yet and collectors are drooling over him.

Neon: I love that Edison quote you're using. It's the sort of thing we can use throughout our lives on big and little things.

I've had these 'bad luck' items in the past but never relisted them so many times; after the 3rd time they go to Goodwill, Salvation Army or the trash!....have had a few problem items that I paid little for but had the 'bidder from H**L and just pitched them in the garbage I was that disgusted....but that's just me!
