I continue to have my hellish month with negs. You would think I would be careful, but oh no... I accidentally left a neg for a bidder who paid on time. They have been an #*!@ since day 1 anyways. They emailed me a nasty email (well deserved), I emailed them back immediately explaining that I would contact ebay right away and let them know it was meant for another bidder. Well, during the time I emailed them, they jumped on ebay and left a neg for me. I know I deserve it. Of the 20 negs I've received in over 3100 transactions, this is probably the 4th that I truly deserved. I'm pretty pissed that I screwed up, but now I am pissed that they didn't let me resolve it before jumping the gun.

Here are my options to handle it:

1) Still contact ebay and tell them that feedback was left for the wrong person. I have back up to prove it. Have them remove the feedback, though it won't remove mine. then just move on...
or
2) Leave follow up explaining my error. I really try to be honest, even if I screwed up. This guy referred to me as a "Con Artist". I already have a bunch of new bids since he left the neg, and I will nonetheless get a bunch of positives in the next few days.

Should I just forget about it or try and help this jerk who ended up getting screwed by my error.

just leave a response and move on. Less said the better. Soon it will move to the next screen and then no one will care.

This is one of the very few times I would suggest getting Square Trade involved. Contact the customer and calmly discuss it with him. Since it was your screwup, you should pay all fees to get them both removed. I would also recommend you pull his info and give him a call on the phone to apologize.

I agree with Libra. Unless this neg really harms your bidder's reputation (i.e., one more neg and you're outta here), I'd leave an explanation and move on.

I agree with Libra and C blev, what I can not understand is how negatives are accidently left, the process of leaving a negative or even a neutral informs you that you are leaving an unfavorable feedback. The only thing I can think of is that the person leaving the feedback has mixed either the buyer or seller for whom the feedback is being left, and was originally intended for another transaction. This reminds me of a Jimmy Hoffa quote "I don't get even......I get even better." Hey I think I found a sig.file.

Just apologise in a response to that feedback. Square Trade is still $20 or $25 isn't it and when the bidder retailiated that shot that option for being a nice guy spend money to try to fix the error.

Thanks AuctionAce. That is what I planned on doing, but just wanted some feedback. The guy has been a jerk since day one, and yes I screwed up, but I'm not about to spend $20-25 to remove something, and leave myself high and dry because he retaliated before I responded to his email. I responded within 5 minutes of getting his email about it, so I did everything I could.
