From the Announcement Board:

Plurals and Alternate Spellings in Search

In the next few weeks, we will be introducing an enhancement to Search that will help you find more relevant search results by including the plural version of a singular word (or vice versa) in your search results. Search will also begin to return alternate spellings of certain words.

Then they give examples.

On a side note, does anyone else notice all the enhancement talk on ebay lately. Doesn't it kind of match all those spam e-mails that always talk about enhancements to certain body parts? Yesterday I noticed this with the Suggestion Box... everywhere you go it's all about enhancements these days.

Well, that will eliminate some of the double wording I have to use in my listings. 4 glasses (glass) will just be 4 glasses. Will at least keep the description a bit simplier.

Omigosh ~!!! ....

"by including the plural version of a singular word (or vice versa) in your search"

this IS fantastic news ... i had JUST finally noticed a week ago that on the MAIN www.ebay.com page, they ask NEWBIES simply "What are you looking for?" ... and i realized that newbies would type "chandeliers" ... or "tables" ... or etc etc etc, and the ONLY items that would come up in the search are the ones that included the word spelled 'plural-ly' [lol... i know that's not a word] ... ... i was ready to try to give up some precious title wording to include our items spelled singular AND plural ... this IS very very good news. .... don't know about you all, but when we DO get bidders this year, it never ceases to amaze me how many 'newbies' come to ebay ....

Great news. The way I got around it before in searches was to use wildcards like clock* for clock and clocks, plus the aforemetnioned double listings.

Now - about those NPBs leaving feedback. THAT would be an enhancement.

I always used to list the item in the singular and add X2 or whatever and put in the description that hi bidder gets all items for one price. This would simplify things although I wonder how many bargains bidders got in the past when the plural was used and few showed up in search. Then, those who shopped by category probably caught it.

BUT. . . I hope to God the plurals don't have apostrophes!

Table's chair's gizmo's tree's The Johnson's (house sign) The possibilities are endless.

The search engine seems to skip apostrophes anyway.

me thinks they don't have it right yet.

try searching on something as simple as Liberty overalls (my favorite brand) and the search says "returned too many matches, try narrowing down your search". Even if I just look in men's, it says the same thing.

the idea was good, but please tell me this isn't permanent........

Misuse of apostrophes is making me nuts! Today on TLC a darling couple having their first baby have a big wooden sign at front door, The Redfox's. And she's a teacher!

(It's "Redfoxes" (plural of Redfox, by the way. If you WANT to make it show that you OWN the place, BOTH of you, make it The Redfoxes'. Plural first, then possessive. If the possessive ends in s, you THEN add an apostrophe.

Anybody want to argue, don't bother. This is non-negotiable.

Getting cranky because it's July.
