Those are really nice. Graphics are beautiful. Those Chinese artists really could do fine things with a brush.

I just tried to use my scanner to take a close up of the coasters. Just found out my scanner is dying. DRATS! Like I need to buy a new one. This below foto is 1:1. In other words, it is the same size as the coasters. Please tell me which foto is better. I sure which I could read chinese!!

I vote for the red background - it looks more "asian"

Definitely the red background. It brings out the colors in the pics.

Paloma: Is there a Chinese-speaking church in your area? YOu might want to take a closeup just of the words on the four coasters and show them to a member.

Or a college that teaches Chinese?

Our son in law works in the Bay Area with a woman who speaks and reads Chinese and Japanese, and in the past when I've had questions like this, I've e-mailed pictures of the words and she's e-mailed the translations.

this set is probably made in hk or taiwan and the pictures are painted by some no name artist.
if you scan the chinese characters ,i can tell you what they said.
it really does not matter what they said, name of the women probably some characters in past chinese history.
the value lies in the coasters,if someone needs a set of decorative coasters, they will bid on them.

I tried to do a closeup scan the coasters this morning but it look like my scanner is on it's way out. It no longer will allow me to do anything but a regular scan. I'll see if I can get it down to my neighbor's house or use my 35 MM camera and use film.

Thanks so very much everyone. I really appreciate all the help and feedback on this.

Paloma, get good digital camera & forget the scanner. You will get better quality pics & it is more versatile.. Try taking a scanner to an auction preview. LOL. I have a HP 4 in 1 with a flattop scanner, have only used it to copy some old photos.

They look like like recent tourist or kitsch-type items, rather than art.
