I have a set of golf clubs listed. They started at $99.00 with a BIN of $119.00. 2 people have been bidding on them and now they're up to $120.00. I have the same set of clubs with no bids that ends in 4 days (the first set ends tonight). Is it wrong of me to email the next highest bidder and direct him to the other set in hopes he'll do the BIN? I realize that the first set may go higher if I don't, but this particular set rarely goes with the BIN and I figure this way I can sell 2 sets. I also thought of doing a second chance offer after they end, but I have never had luck with that.

I dont think its wrong. Just dont know as a buyer how I would feel about receiving an email from seller like that?
Maybe they are enjoying the competition of the bidding process.

I don't think it's wrong either but it might be considered spam to the buyer but then again they may Thank You cause they really wanted the item.I'm like you always afraid I might hurt someones feelings.

I don't know if this is legal or not with eBay but what you could do is end the auction that has 4 days to go. Then let this auction run out and do a second chance offer. eBay will still get the fees from both auctions if the next highest bidder takes your second chance. I have had good luck with the second chance offer. Who knows how high this set is going to go and I think if they haven't looked at the other auction then you should cancel that one so they don't know what the BIN is on it. The high bidder on this one might be upset if the other bidder backed out and got the other one for the BIN price.

That's a good point Libra, although I never have had anyone take me up on a second chance offer yet - I don't know why. I think I've tried 20 or 30 of them already.
PS - I think I jinxed our summer in that thread a few days ago - it's been cold ever since

It's not illegal and since they may end up getting the clubs for less than if they emroil themselves in a bidding war I would think they would be appreciative. I know I would be.

ihula, I'd do it (directing a bidder to another auction of mine); in fact, I've done it! But I would wait until the first auction closes.
Second chance offer could be a good one, too, but like someone above, no one has ever taken me up on that offer. I think people get caught up in auction fever and get cold feet when it's all over.

Roadsmith has it right. Wait until the first auction closes, but make sure to write down the e-mail address of the bidders before the auction closes, then direct them to the second one.

Well, I have to admit this worked out pretty good! His high bid was the same price as my BIN, so I decided to send him a second chance offer since I'd save the listing fees and just see what happens and he actually bought them through that! My first one. Then I sent a second chance offer (figured I was on a roll) for a dvd set that usually doesn't go as high as it did and that person bought it too! Now if these people would pay I'd really have a happy morning
