After six years at this game, I now have a pretty good idea who some of my deadbeats will be. Presented for your amusement and edification.

Brides - 100% of the time. I have never had a person who self-identified as a bride or a bridal consultant actually complete a transaction. Examples: wedingjiters, foryourwedding!

Women with "mom" somewhere in their username - About 80% of the time. Examples: momoffour, barfleighsmom, etc. I figure these are partly stay-at-home recreational bidders who are just too gosh darn busy to actually pay.

People with "edgy" usernames - About 60%. Examples: crackm0nkey, p*ssonchevys. You get this mental image of a bunch of rancid teenagers sitting around a computer yukking it up.

People with "love" or "luv" in their username - About 30%. Examples: samantha-luvs-dieter, lois-loves-to-shop, ilovebeatles.

People who think using a "z" in place of an "s" is cool - About 30%. Examples: artzandcraftz.

(Note: all examples are slightly modified from actual deadbeats I have had. If they represent any real eBay bidders, it's a coincidence.)

Fluffy,
Please don't tar and feather me with the rest of the "moms".

But I have to agree with you about the handles of deadbeats. I looked at my list and they certainly have qualities in common with your list.

You'd think that eBay could take a look at all of the blocked bidders lists and figure out that if X number of sellers had blocked a bidder, there's a reason.

I find the mom ebay IDs to be the best and least likely to deadbeat. I find snooty an "edgy" ID as in an immature sounding name.

Which categories do i fall into, i wonder? Is the "dragon" part in that animal names category, is the mom part too... mommy? LOL! In the magic wand business, I sell to more "mom"s and animal-named people than any other thing. I hate it when they spell it like "sylvyrdragyn" though i would never tell them so.
Brides, though.
I had one bride-to-be send me emails for abut three months planning out the magic wand she wanted as part of her dress. Then... nothing. Was I surprised? noooooo!

And I am about to change my user name to "MoodyMommy" (already the name of my store)! So I'll fill two of your categories..better block me!(just kidding..I am NOT a deadbeat!)

Now MommyDearest may be a bad ebay ID. Especially if they auction a lot of coat hangers.
I agree with the brides being bad bidders. That must be a brutal category. I imagine a lot of brides get left at the alter or earlier.

If a user named MOMMYBRIDZ bids on one of Fluffy's auctions, she'll probably have a catnip caniption

Fluffy is right on!

I have had deadbeats with luv, fiesty** and the z thing in their name all a pain in the behind! Now when I have a buyer with the "edgy" names I hold my breath until the transaction is completed. The IDs people choose really do tell a lot about them, if it actually spells something that is.

Let's get a grip here. Not all bidders with a "z" instead of an "s" are deadbeats. Not all bidders with "mom" or "mommy" in their ID's are deadbeats. Not all "Brides" are bad either. Let's not lump all bidders with certain monikers under the "deadbeat" category.

I don't have any wish to be rude but maybe if some sellers spent more time checking the feedback on bidders and less time worrying about how they spell or what type of ID they use, just possibly the seller might get fewer deadbeats.

Now let's see how badly I get blasted for having an opposing viewpoint.

capolady: If you can't have fun with a thread posted for amusement value that obviously has no scientific validity, perhaps next time you should just pass it by.

Oh, dear, did Big Bad Fluffy just beat you up?

Three of my recent deadbeats had user names with momma, mama and gramma. They all gave me sob stories and threw in a bit of religion. They all went NARU.

kiara: My mom's username has grandma in it as well.

Maybe there are so many such usernames that some percentage of them are likely to be deadbeats? Don't know.

Here's something that's been puzzling me for awhile. I get usernames like smith-half or david-half or jones-half. What's with the -half? Is that supposed to be the "better" half?

Hi Fluffy,

The xx-half is a user id from half.com. The ids there are xx-half. Since the two sort of merged they will be found bidding on ebay auctions using their half ids.

Keepp up the good posts I enjoy them and often share them with my fat Manx cat who keeps me company and offers good advice while I sit at my computer.
