This may sound like a silly question to some of you but please educate me.
I foolishly replied to one of the email scams with my password. I realised a few days later that it was a scam and went into ebay and really did change my password to something completely different.
I read on another post that what the scammers are trying to get is your credit card number so I went to ebay and tried to view my credit card information. It never displays, it just gives me the opportunity to add new info.
So, my question is am I really at risk, how can they get my credit information if all they had was my ebay password ?

They ask you for it while pretending to be ebay.

If it's really Common Sense, why do so few people actually have it?

You better cancel that credit card and get a new one. You will find that there are going to be mega charges on it on the next billing cycle. You got scammed and it is now time to protect yourself before you are under a massive credit card bill. You have lost that ID on ebay as well. Time to move on.

Please feel free to ignore the information given by Stone. As usual, he'll full of it.

Real information or advice would be something alongthe lines of: check the credit card to see if there has been unusual activity. Since you gave out your password and nothing else it's kind of irrelevent anyway. Since you realised your faux paux and changed your password you obviously have not lost the account. As a general rule - all advice given by Stone should be considred as Bizzaro help....do the opposite.

This happened to a friend of mine a few months ago. Right away he called the credit card company and they checked all charges. There were no new ones but they issued him a new card immediately.

Before my mother passed away, she purchased a small item by mail and used her Visa. As it turned out, the company was a front for an operation in Canada that had a scheme going to purchase a "can't lose" block of tickets for a pool in the Canadian lottery. They started out with a small $17.00 charge on her card. When she didn't notice it and protest it, they ran up a tab of over $6,000.00 in one month! It took me a year to finally get all the charges reversed, primarily because of the burocracy of the bank that issued the card. It's a nightmare that I don't want to ever go through again. If you have any reason to suspect that your credit card has been compromised, notify the issuer immediately and have that account cancelled and a new one opened. Turnaround time is about one week if they use first class mail. 24 hours if they use FedEx.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.
