Had a buyer e-mail me:

Can you tell me when this is or was sent?

AAAUUGHH - it was sent on July 17 after we received a money order. Sent it with DC and insurance.

Called to verify delivery and I hear: "Delivery was attempted on July 21 at 3:34 p.m....."

AAUGGHHHH - Called their post office 3000 miles away and confirmed that the package was, indeed, still sitting there waiting for the buyer to pick it up... Along with 2 other packages "that are going back to their senders on Aug. 5" if the buyer doesn't pick them up.

Called the buyer - got voice mail - politely told her that her package is waiting for her at the post office, the address of the post office, their hours - including Saturday hours for her convenience. I think I even hinted at the Post Office's comment that they left notices as well.

What else could I possibly do for her?

If she doesn't pick it up, I guess I risk a neg - but I'll get it back - paying $14+ in postage AGAIN - but I'll relist the blasted thing and sell it again - hopefully this time to someone who might be willing to go pick it up....

Wow. Sure hope you made those calls on a cellphone that has free nationwide long distance.

I have a firm policy of not paying for other peoples' stupidity.

Hi Wayne,
I had the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago. The first I knew about it was a chargeback request from their bank. Naturally when I contacted the P.O. they tell me that they have contacted the buyer twice but the package has still not been delivered. I had them send it back to me. The best part is that the buyer starts abusing me and saying that she wanted it sent to her when the only details that they sent to me were for her BF. Apparently I am a screw up for not emailing them and asking if the name and address that THEY supplied are accurate. They went NARU before I could post feedback and they waited just long enough that I could not file for fees. Item relisted.
Regards,
Adrian

Aren't all the post office calls toll free when you go thru their special numbers?

I wouldn't run up long distance charges on low priced items. You could have emailed them first and asked to check at their post office, especially after reading the online message when you entered the DC numbers.

It was a $68.00 item. Worth the expense of having it delivered and not sent back...

I pay 3 cents a minute - spent a total of maybe 10 mins on the phone (30-cents into my $50 profit).

I now have a client who appreciates the extra effort I made, the personal service, and may buy from me again. And, top that off with a good feeling of helping a handicapped buyer - and I'll sleep well tonight.

Fluffy - I agree. I'd go to the poorhouse if I tried to pay for all the idiots.

Sometimes I wonder how many times the P.O. really does try to notify the buyer or deliver the item.

About a year ago, shortly after we moved to our little mountain town, I ordered a huge amount of shipping supplies from the USPS to be delivered to my P.O. for me. A month later I still hadn't heard anything and was in line to pick up a small package when the clerk mentioned they had 14 cartons in the back room waiting for me and had left notices in my P.O. box twice and were about to return the items. It was my big order from the USPS! And it filled my Forester.

And I can testify under oath that we visit our little P.O. here at least once a day and ALWAYS look for package slips and ALWAYS immediately pick them up. That really threw me. Hasn't happened since, and now they all know me, but that really woke me up a bit.

I have had this happen a couple of times.

If you check the DC on line, it will tell you it is at the PO waiting for delivery.

You can email the info to the buyer, they were waiting on an email answer anyway.

result; you save long distance bills, buyer knows where the package is, all is well.

Here's a scaryr one for you. Lat week my carrier left notices for me on two packages (both insured for over $200). Somehow a neighbor ended up with them. Despite the fact that both noticed were listed under my business name and both packages were addressed to my business when my neighbor went down to the post office, they handed them over no questions asked. She's a little strange and apparently assumed that they were either a package she was expecting (both were much too small to be it) or possibly something intended for the tattoo artist who just moved out of the space next door. Luckily she's at least somewhat honest because after realizing they were neither she brought them by but I'm baffled why
1) the post office would give the to her in the first place
2) why she thought something addressed to my business was for either her or the tattoo artist.

I'm not having good luck with shipments these days. My lazy Fed-Ex driver returned a package last week as wrong address (his supervisor is about to ring his neck for that one since he told them that he tried to deliver it again yesterday but it was refused when in reality, it was returned to the shippier yesterday) and then there is the lost BidPay payment on item number 4 that I ordered.

If it's really Common Sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Fendix,
Sorry you are having a troubling week.

I had a airmail letter from Taiwan. The postman left 1 p/u notice for it. When I went by the post office (i didnt have the notice w/me) I asked the clerk if she could tell him to try to redeliver as ususally i am home. He never did. So of course, I go about my business and almost forgot all about it until a week later I remembered.

They didnt try to redeliver or put another notice at all. I always thought you got at least two notifications.

Every post office in my city demands a photo ID to pick up a package or mail of any kind. Perhaps a complaint should be filed against that particular post office that simply gave the mail to your neighbor. It may help curb future cases of this kind of unnecessary error.

My postal carrier drives down my driveway & sits there with his fist on the horn when he has a delivery. He also ties packages to my mailbox, rain or shine, with elastic bands!

Different buyer this time claims she sent USPS Money Order on 7/18 - wondering when I'm going to send her item - after I e-mailed 2x to ask where her payment was.

Yesterday, she said she would send another MO.

Today - miraculously the MO is returned to her because she addressed it wrong - got all the way here and our PO sent it back because a digit was missing from the address.

AAAUGGGH - I guess people make mistakes and this doesn't cost me anything more than an extra e-mail or 2 - and since it's not PayPal (which I love, btw) it saves me a buck or more in fees....

Wayne, you know I figure when people use MO or checks, it adds about a week (if not more)to the actual End of Transaction. Its nice not to have to pay PP fees, but its a pain the butt to track down. Especially if your buyer is not the diligent type to mail out right away. (Like me. I owe a guy a MO because thats all he would take, and all week I havent forgotten to get one! I will do it today, though! -- If he took PP, it would have been over and done with already!)
And I myself am waiting for two mail-in EOA's! (Their choice).
