I sold a large lot of items and the winner wants me to ship to a third party. He plans to use paypal? I have it in my listing that I do not always accept paypal. That covers me if the winner has bad FB, no FB or an unconfirmed address and I want a money order.
This guy has like 60 FB (private) but all are good?
I know I lose my seller's protection by shipping to a 3rd party.
I'm talking about a $500.00 in total cost and a lot of time?
Any help?
Thanks

true, you get no protection from paypal.
you will be #*!@ out of luck if he files a complaint with paypal.
you can ask to see his private feedback if he gives you the password.
you can ask for a money order and then ship to wherever he wants you to ship to including congo and lapland .

What is paypal going to do - make me ship to a unconfirmed address - without seller's protection??
If the 3rd party has paypal - and paid me instead of him - would that work??
I don't really care what the FB says - that's not the point. If it was 500 mostly positive FB - I would probably ship with no questions.

if third party has paypal account and paid you ,and you ship to HIS CONFIRMED ADDRESS,with delivery confirmation and signature receipt, you are protected.
-note for over 200 or 200 plus, you need more than dc,you need signature receipt of the buyer.
if you dont feel comfortable, why not just ask them to send you money order, you can offer to split the cost of money order with him if you want to be nice.
our local liquor store sells western union money order up to 500 dollars for 67 cents.

500 bucks is a lot to lose. Make the guy buy a money order or use BidPay. On almost every loss of funds bad deal there is a seller saying 'I didn't want to lose a chance at a lot of money'.

There's absolutely no way I'd ship a $500 item to an unconfirmed Paypal address. Ask for a money order.

you have received some excellent advice here...I would never ship to an unconfirmed address for that amount...money order or Bidpay.

what if the credit card and Paypal account are not theirs? ie, parents, friends etc. you will be risking a large chargeback.

for bidpay, the fee is 16.20 with first class usps shipping which the buyer will pay bidpay.

I would email him and tell him of your worries. With that he should understand and send you payment through bidpay. You know money orders can be faked. I think bidpay is the way to go.

BidPay is a money order. A US Postal money order is best, it's a federal crime to monkey around with those.

not eveyrone has 500 dollars cash to buy a money order at supermarket or western union or bank or post office, thats why they use their credit card at bidpay.

A post office money order is 90 cents and a BidPay money order is $16.20 . To help lessen the chance of losing the $500 sale you can suggest he visits an ATM or his bank and then a post office to save a lot of money over a BidPay money order. After reading the nightmare threads here about BidPay that may be the best bet.

The Post office will take a Credit Card .

The post office will NOT take a credit card for a money order though. I've stood in line for years at the post office and I've heard the clerks say that a lot of times.

yeah, taking credit card for money order is like taking in 90 cents and dole out 1 dollar, surefire way to lose momey.
but i think you guys are missing the point, the bidder may not have that much cash.

With paypal is DC enough for proof of mailing or must you insure too.

Why can't you tell the buyer you have to mail to him & then he can send it to the third party.

Isn't that the whole point? He may not have that much cash. You can take any credit card to your bank or any ATM and withdraw cash. That's the same as using it at BidPay. The seller should ask the buyer to do that rather than risk losing $500 because of a non-confirmed address is used.

The Post Office will take an ATM card for a Money Order but not a credit card. I ship to unconfirmed addresses frequently with no problem however if this doesn't feel right to you don't. Other unrelated things to consider: If it looks too good to be true it usually is. There's no free lunch. In God We Trust...all others pay cash.

mcjane.
paypal requires online trackable delivery confirmation from seller to prove he has shipped the item.
for payment over 200 or is it 250>.it requires signature receipt as well.
so it may be cheaper to use UPS ground as you get insurance up to 100 free, signature receipt and online trackable.

Thanks everyone
Now he says that it's a gift for his mother and her address is confirmed on his paypal? Odd gift?
Can you have more than one confirmed addresses on paypal?
I did a search and he buys lots like this all the time. Maybe she has a shop or something.

Is it a bunch of leather whips? I believe you only get one confirmed address on PayPal. A seller can use a bunch of different emails to accept payments with but that's different.

I usually have no problem with shipping to an unconfirmed address, but $500 is a lot to lose. I would ship to the confirmed address here...

he sure loves his mother??wonder what people say about him in his private feedback??
you can only have one confirmed address with your paypal account.
paypal confirmed account = billing address of his credit card, aka where his credit card statement is sent each month.

This is a no brainer. Ship $500.00 worth of merchandise to an unconfirmed address for a private feedback bidder and trust those kind and caring people at Paypal to protect your pocketbook? NO WAY!! If this bidder doesn't have enough cash to buy a money order or enough clear space on his credit card to pay through Bidpay, then why do you want to fool with him? Send him an email and give him 3 choices: money order, Bidpay or relist.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

sales is slow these days and 500 is good money.
when push comes to shove, let him use paypal and then you ship to his confirmed address with dc and signature receipt.
dont forget, anything over 250 requires signature receipt to protect you .
by the way,is he still bidding for his mom??
