Just got one from someone whose English leaves much to be desired. Supposedly from [email protected] with the subject " Your paypal billing informations are out of dates" Wonder what country uses the pleural in such instances. Clicked on the link and found they wanted such information as my mother's maiden name, my driver's license number, my bank acct. number and the name of the bank, my ATM pin number and my credit card #. They have to be kidding if they think I would fill any of this stuff in. Forwarded it to [email protected]

Ever have someone borrow money from you and never repay?? If so, answer the email and give HIS info in all the spaces they ask for. Try to keep a straight face the next time you see him.

Interesting idea but I am sure no one gives out that information to anyone except perhaps to a trustworthy spouse.

they are getting pretty brazen indeed!
I just received this email today, and remembered seeing your post about it; so I came here to see where to forward it.
I was shocked to see your original post was July 30, and that is the day you forwarded it to PayPal, and then I get it today - I wonder how long it takes to shut these ppl down?

wgm - remember that ebay has no jurisdiction to shut down someone on a foreign ISP.

There is no "shutting these people" down. There English may be broken but their hacking skills are sharp. There are hundreds of ways to mail out the spoof emails without ever getting caught.

I have reported scams to ISP's and have been surprised at how fast they appear to move on them. I don't think too many of them are involved in any of this. These guys change email providers right and left. What needs to happen is NO MORE FREE EMAIL services. Make them pay each and everytime they need to change. It's hard to catch someone who keeps moving around.

It's sorta like stealing a car to rob a bank. A stolen credit card number is used to set up an account at an ISP. The ISP is used to send the spoof emails. There is almost always no catching of this person that sends the emails.

Dad I never knew there was a spoof@paypal until two days ago and it appears on my new paypal account. It doesn't say anything on my old account. They probably just started to do that.

Yes,the next day [email protected] e-mailed me with the usual information about the email not originating from their site and cautioning me not to give the information requested etc. etc. They also stated they would investigate further but I imagine it is hard to keep pace with these clowns.

I like to fill in false information so they have to spend some time trying to access my account. If everyone did that, they would not have time to go after the real fish.
