Stuff and utter nonsense.

This is a generic "be afraid, be VERY afraid" article based on a press release from some slimeball company trying to sell its products or services. This happens ALL THE TIME.

You can easily spot these plants yourself by checking the last few paragraphs. If there is a company cited as a source for the information, you can be certain this "alert" came practically verbatim from the company's PR department.

This is why you see so many "be afraid" articles about Web content harmful to children (which are planted by companies that make filtering software) or the standard "your employees are surfing the Web on company time" scare (planted by companies that make monitoring software).

Yes, Windows is vulnerable to attack. Always has been. Always will be. This is so yesterday's news.

I am not a bathtub full of brightly-colored machine tools on Vendio.

I for one appreciate the warning. Since my computer went crazy a few months ago I no longer get warnings from Microsoft about security updates. In fact, when I go to the site it tells me there are none for my computer (which is not true).

I did find the download and installed it. Any risk is too big a risk when it is so easily fixed and for free!

Thanks!

If it's really Common Sense, why do so few people actually have it?

No reason to waste money on a mac when Linux is free. Its also alot easier to use now.

I was looking through some server logs here on one of my web bulletin boards.
Somebody tried real hard to hack the thing. Log has their IP address and the
system gave 'em a "rubber chicken" cookie. Saw the cookie again later on when
they tried to use the board. Now they gotta write me before they can get back in.

I used to only run DOS machines on the Internet. It was fun watching someone
attempt a port scan on them. The modem would light up then just sit there for a bit.
They don't answer or else they answer with something nonsensical.

Hacking happens! Port scanning happens. Firewalls and running sensible software
prevents a lot of troubles. As to the Internet itself? It's pretty much self healing.

I think this one is for real, heard something about it on the news tonight.
it was also mentioned that Microsoft had a "patch" for it, whatever that means.
