Hello All, Because of hard times and millions being out of work. People have flooded ebay with anything they can find to sell. Sellers are finding it hard to sell, the prices are way off and the buyers are having a hard time finding items they are looking for. Ebay is way too cluttered. I think ebay should split their auctions. One auction for anything priced under $24.99 the other auction of items priced at over $25.00. Any other ideas to make Ebay a better place for all.

Did ebay get rid of the search engine last night or something? I mean if I want a pair of black sandals size 8 I enter black, sansals, 8 and Whala! There they are. Need a new toner cartridge? Toner, printer model, type... BOOM... all the toner cartridges I could ever need. It makes no difference how many decks of Iraqi Most Wanted Cards, or recipes or .01 sports cards there are. I know what I want, I enter it into the search engine and I find it.

I love when sellers claim that ebay is so cluttered with other stuff that buyer just can't find what they want. What they are really saying is.... No one is buying my stuff. It can'r be that I am selling crap, that I have badly described my stuff, that I have failed to price my items at a competitive rate, or that I failed at my research and bought two cases of items in an already flooded market.... it must be that there are too many other items listed. Get real. Ebay is not the local bargain bin where you catch as catch can. If a buyer knows what they want, it's very easy to find it, no matter what price range it is in.

It's a sad and pathetic individual who is so desperate to find fault in what others say that they resort even to typos.

On a sidenote - I get some amazing deals thanks to typos in descriptions. The funniest was the daay I found my own auction during a common typo search.

Just to show you don't know what you are saying. Maybe because a large part of your brain fell into your feet to make your foot a size 8 LOL. I just checked my sales for the last week. I had 52 auctions end, 44 sold, 8 were unsold. 15 auctions were $24.99 or under, and 29 were over $25.00 with a high of 148.05. I now have auctions running with a low of $8.99 to a high of $950.00. So no thanks to people like you my sales are just fine but I am always looking for ways to make them better. I still feel that Ebay should break up into 2 auctions under $25.00 and under $25.00. Only a fool would say a $2,000 item should be listed with 2,000 items that sell for $2.00.

So exactly where do the over $25 items go?

For someone that seems to have a good sell through rate, you sure have nothing but b*tching about eBay... How about posting one NICE thing...

Who says that a $2,000.00 dollar item is more important than a $24.00 Item? Nobody, not eBay and not you. Think back of the beer can that started at $9.99 and the plate which I think started at $9.99. then think a little longer about the radio. I started a piece of Jewelry for $5.99 ended at $157.00. So nobody can be judges about what auctions should be split. If you don't like the bottom priced auctions then don't look. I for one cannot or will not put out the money for a high priced item. So I will continue to list my $7.99 items along with those that start at $1,000.00. Please tell me that someone is better than me, or is it I, because I don't list high end items. No they shouldn't be split....

the advanced search let you include/exclude according to price etc.
what i dont like to see is the same items listed over and over again, there are certain prints and posters, resin casted dogs, pug address label etc and most of the time it is a waste of money to list them as most people who want them have already bot them.

Big - "people like you"? I have spent the better part of $1500 on ebay in the past two weeks and pay immediately via PayPal. I could have sworn that "people like me" were exactly what sellers need but if you'll put a recognizable clue in your auctions I'll be sure not to mess with your model on future buying sprees.

BTW - In your brilliant scheme - where do the items that start at 9.99 and close for over $100 go?

If the current system is working for you, why do you want to change it? Seems you had decent sales from the numbers you posted.

twelvepole, I never said a bad word about ebay. All I said was I think ebay should split. Its too cluttered. Its not a Ebay problem, its the tough times a lot of people are facing. Millions of people have lost jobs or are making a lot less money. These poor people are selling anything they can get their hands on just they are trying to keep going. I feel very bad for these people. Its the economy that is the problem. About 10 years ago I remember hearing "ITS THE ECONOMY STUPID" well the same hold true today. 10 years ago people were selling Granny's rocker now they are selling Granny's rocker with Granny in it. Ya know Twelvepole, I am not worried about myself, I am an old hillbilly picker that has made a living selling junk for over 40 years now. Its the American working class I am worried about. My wife and I are involved with a church group that helps work at a couple soup kitchens. In our small way we are trying to help. Yes, I still believe Ebay should split and its way too cluttered.

That's why the bids are lower! No one wants the Granny!

I think awhile ago someone posted that they didn't have much to sell so they rounded up what they had lying around the house and with those auctions made some good money. I think that is what people are doing now and that's okay with me. I don't buy, well occasionally but I sure do have a lot of collectables around this house that could bring some good money so why shouldn't I do it. It's the same with everyone. I resell what I can find around and that brings in what I need for the month. I also want to know once your item jumps up to the $24.00 price where does that item go? Wow if you think eBay has troubles now just wait.

Fexix03, Spliting Ebay? Ebay would still be an auction so you could still start a bid at $9.99 and it still might wind up selling for $100.00. Once again I am not sure what you are saying. If I knew something might bring $100.00 I would think it would be better to list it in the over $25.00 Ebay auction. Where there are more buyers willing to spend that kind of money. It might bring more money there. 1500 dollars is a lot of money to spend on Ebay in just 2 weeks good luck to ya.

Not me. I would list it at $9.99 as it will get way more attention at the start and may even go over $100.00 as more people see it and desire it.

If ebay should be split in any way, I think it should be "new stuff" and "old stuff".

Kiara,
I agree 100%. If they ever split the site, it should be between old and new stuff. I honestly thought the were going to do something similar when they bought Half.com. I thought they would move all the books, cd's, videos, and software over there to free up space on the Ebay site and reduce the number of categories. That's the reason they originally set up Ebay motors, to get the cars and parts categories in their own area and away from the other unrelated items offered on Ebay, and they have been wildly successful with that model.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Kiara, Your idea is better than mine. I never thought about splitting the old from the new. Ebay does need splitting and your idea would work just fine. Now if Ebay would only listen!!!!

Ebay today can still work well for items that are "searchable". It is simply too large for general browsing. I remember the old days when I could browse ALL of antiques. As it grew, I could browse Antiques ending today or new today. Now, if it doesn't show up in my search, forget it.

For example, I don't think many eBayers would search for: a nondescript pottery vase, unmarked, odd shade of pink that might or might not be McCoy.
These are items that are bought on whim; someone walks by a flea market table and picks it up.

So, since searching is the only way to go, the price and number of items no longer matters. I don't care if the ten items retrieved in my search are retrieved out of a total of 11 items or 1,000,000 items. I don't have to see the other items.

I like the idea of separating old/new, but just as with categories, unless there is some enforcement, it becomes a free-for-all, when "clever" sellers decide to list in "wrong" sections as a marketing ploy.

yes, the days of browsing a category are gone. I used to wandser through four or five pages of antiques, and see what I could find. Now I have to think of what I want to look for! You lose the element of Serendipity. And if I do a search for "antique vase" or "Vintage vase" I get a ton of repeat auctions for vintage style (more or less) vases. In my categories, I make one at a time by hand. My auctions compete with crappy made-in-pakistan items that show up as blocks of twelve auctions all the same, and then another block of twelve auctions with two words reversed. And maybe ONE sale.

It shows in the pattern of hits, too- I 'm sure you've noticed, you get lots of hits the first days, when your item is on the first or second page if you look at "newest items first" and then the week drags on with hardly any hits, and then you get hits again in the last two days from the people that look at "ending soon"

The new/old split was someone else's idea some time back on this board I think. If enough people here want to try it maybe we should hammer at ebay's door and request a new/old split. JACK CAN HAMMER WHEN HE FINDS A CAUSE.

We have all been around these boards long enough to know the ins and outs of ebay. Any new lurkers who decide to join have been selling for awhile and have their own new ideas. Any newbie brave enough to come here and ask questions fuels new ideas for all of us and has their own input. Anyone else who comes here and looks over this board of whackos and goes screaming for the hills....... too bad, they missed out.

There will always be abusers. Look at all the people who are using hidden text, keyword spamming, selling off-site and scamming ebay..... we see them daily. Many are fighting and using every trick in the book to survive.

If the abuse gets too bad by people selling in the wrong division so it's destroying our business we will study the damage being done to the split and come up with some new ideas and again JACKSWEBB WILL HAMMER ON EBAY'S DOOR.
