A winning bidder located in Israel wants my bank account information for their bank to transfer a payment of $300 U.S. from their account into my bank account.

Anyone have experience with this?

Is there any reason for concern at my end?

NOT!! a Big NOT! Then they have your bank account number and can do all sorts of damage to YOU DO NOT do it.

Suggest instead that they use Bidpay.com IT's safe for both buyer and seller and you will get a western union money order mail to you!

another way to do it is to have them go to their local Western Union office that is located in their country and have them Wire you money. They can wire it to you, give you the password to pick it up and Waaa Laa! Payment is made! I have done that with buyers in all sorts of countries. From Austraiia to Spain to Russia.

By the way, where is your buyer located? What country?????

pclady I take it from your flippant remarks that you ASSume this transaction would be guranteed to be ok?

When you write a check, it goes to a bank. An individual does have your info, but can do nothing with it as it was "used" with the check... bank transfers are different.

twelve, I can give you my account number and there is nothing you can do to hijack that account. Want to test it? You can wire me money first

I would think your safe as long as you send:
The bank name, possibly the bank address,Your name, and the acct. #.
Nothing Else!!

If that's not enough for them, tell them to send you a International M.O.!

If you were buying from this person in Israel, and you sent him a check he would have the same info in his hand.

He can do no more with a check in hand than he can with a E-mail in hand!

If they don't want anything more than what is printed on your checks then it is probably safe but you will probably get a fee charged by your bank too.($15-$30?)
I would personally never do it.

I worked in the International department of a major bank a couple of years ago. We handled International Wire Transfers all the time. The information you give them cannot cause your account to be hijacked. They need more information than that. Your social comes to mind. If you are uncomfortable, don't do it.

Hello
I use wire transfers all the time. That is what banks themselves use. I also watch my account via the Internet and keep funds low in it. I have never had a problem. Banks charge a fee to TX funds some more than others. determine amount and who pays before transaction. Good luck....David

Actually Dadofstickboy, he would need a routing number also...

I just think comfort level is the key here... how comfortable are you?

Things were worked out with the buyer, who was able to use Paypal instead of a bank transfer.

Yeah, really!!! You can never panic enough or be paranoid enough. When you get your checks issued to them the first thing you want to do is take a pair of sissors to them and cut off your bank account number and routing number on the bottom of each check.

The only reason I would not want a buyer to wire me a payment are the fees my bank will charge me.

It is possible to obtain the routing number if one knows the bank name and address. I would not consider providing a buyer my account number to a checking account. This information is requested frequently, usually by Nigerian scamsters. The ruse they use is systematic overbilling and the need to move money out of Nigeria. Check with the Commercial International Trade department of your bank, most tellers haven't a clue as to this information.
