I guess your a little upset tonight and I don't blame you. First thing the buyer SHOULD do is read everything to do with the auction, but some only have tunnel vision.
posted on August 5, 2003 08:22:48 PM newActually e mail me before placing bids. I want to know where the bidder is geographically. Thanks! If you don't and bid your bid WILL be CANCELLED. This is serious business on this one. Thanks.
This seems like a pretty good TOS maybe you should try to use it.

If it's the zero feedback bidder, they bid on only no-ship auctions located across the country for the same type item. Bet they have false information too.

Create your own pre-approved bidder/buyer list for any item and only allow those on your list to bid or buy. Any bidder/buyer who is not in your list will be asked to contact you by email to place a bid or buy your item. You can add or delete bidders/buyers up until your listing ends. Please use this feature cautiously as it may limit the number of bids or sales of your item.
Here is a little used tool available from eBay thay may solve some of these problems.

I sell a lot of customer pick up only!
I ran into one that insisted I ship!
I kept telling him no!
He kept bidding!
Finally he won!
Paid me twice his winning bid, and covered all the shipping expences!
No questions asked.
I gave him a price I wanted to ship!
Take it or leave it!
Had a M.O. the next day!!
Talked to him on the phone, what a nice guy!
Just wouldn't take NO for an answer!
I was almost going to throw it in my truck and deliver it myself.
Just to meet him!

Limit bids? Limit sales? That is the last thing anyone would want to do on their auctions. Everyone wants all the bids they can get, even if the bidding will only come from their city or area.
I agree with Jack. eBay should put those zipcodes back on the page. Only the seller will see them anyways.
People do not read, even when it's there in their face. This is the only solution I see right now that is workable. eBay, please put back the zipcodes.
Dad, your experience was a good one but things like that seldom happen. If they happened often enough this thread would not be here.

Ahh but you have NO RIGHT to tell anyone what is OFF LIMITS
I am not addressing you again... my posts from here on out will be on the topic... you do the same or place me on ignore... your choice.
Also something that is being overlooked... Lets say bidder has a zip code close by... but ooops they forgot to update their address and now they live across country... what good did it do to have a zip code?
NONE
A measly 30 cent listing fee will not cover the labor needed by eBay to ensure their databases are updated with that amount of frequency.

They are just plain stupid!!!!!! and I would NEVER state this at the end of the description. I WANT NO Problems!!!!!! right up front!!!!!!!!!! NO Shipping!!!!!! I am gonna get his bid money,,,,,,,,,shipped or not. and it WILL be NOT!!!!!!! Done it before and I,,,,,,,,will,,,,do it ,,,again!!!!

Simple solution. That bidder misses out on what could have been his best deal ever. He learns to update his registration. He learns if he is going to use a site like ebay he will have to do certain things.
He will learn what "update" is all about when he gets nailed for wrong contact info.
He will be sitting on the curb wondering why he got thrown out of the house. It will make him think and then come back and do the things we all have to do.

Isn't that exactly what is happening when you state "Pick up only"
You are limiting your selling base right there... no difference, but eBay does have a tool in place to make sure that the bidder is close buy, why the resistance?
Zip Codes are only as good as when people first register and not even then... one of my recent winners had a zip code from Maine and he now lives in Ohio... yep zip code sure was of use there....

It states right in the auction description for that item, if it takes over a certain amount of time to contact you. If your bidder has the attention span of a gnat they will think you deliver.

That's my point. You are already limiting your sales. Why should you have to narrow it down even more?
Your bidder.... Maine, now Ohio. Same solution as above. Do like us and follow the rules or he will eventually be kicked to the curb. And then he will learn.
