I received two e-mails recently that I believe are fake. One is from [email protected] saying that I reached a star level that I have not yet reached, and offering a 30% "Fidelity" discount on fees. When I tried to connect I got a connection failure. The other is from [email protected] telling me that my billing updates are out of order and that unless corrected my account would be cancelled. When I tried to connect I got a "URL not found" message. Has anyone received similar e-mails or does anyone have any knowledge of these?

That would be a "pre" requisite... Please send any e-mail that asks for any information about your eBay interactions to: [email protected] NEVER, NEVER, NEVER click a URL you get in an e-mail that appears to be from eBay. They just don't send out as many as the scammers looking for your passwords, account names and numbers, shoe size, etc.

I got one this morning from [email protected] asking for my I.D. and password. There are so many fake eBay emails as soon as I see they want my password I delete them.

ANYWAY! I get them everyday, sometimes 2 or 3 x a day. Today got a new one... CITIBANK, yeah, looks for real.. all their logos, you click the link, asks for your number and name! so I put in a phoney number and George W. Bush, and it went through DUH, then I put in John Doe, Jane Doe, then I wrote to the little b*tch at aol who sent it, and told her I had turned her into citibank...

Stusi. Phoney threads from eBay have been talked about almost everyday. More and more are coming. Remember eBay will Never ask you for your password, or any other sensitive information. If you remember that then all the emails you receive are phoney.

I am well aware of a large number of fake ebay e-mails and know not to give out info. I was asking about whether anyone got these specific ones and have contacted ebay spam control and support.

NearThe Sea...don't be too certain that the b***h @ aol actually sent you the Citibank email..a couple of Sundays ago my AOL account suddenly shut down and I couldn't get back in...I got a notice to call AOL instead. My first thought was that I had forgotten to pay the bill but that gets charged to a cc...when I called they told me that my 17 yo daughter's account had just sent out 10,000 emails!!!!!!!! WHAT?? I said..I was signed into MY eBay account and she was sleeping soundly. It turns out someone got her password and generated a whole bunch of emails...we had our passwords reset and have had no further trouble. The point is that with a password, ANYONE can generate an email! THe one you received might not have really been from the owner of that eBay ID at all! I didn't get a chance to read all of the mail she "sent" but many were for Viagra, penis enlargement etc
