I had an Ebayer do the Ask the Seller a Question. I answered him and sent it off. I got an email from Verfiedmailer.com telling me to go to a website to verify that I sent the email and that it wasn't spam. Have any of you ever gotten this? I'm just not going to bother answering his question.

Cheryl- I got my first one last week in response to a PayPal WBN...I verified and then they answered they had received the notice! I guess they got some poor suckers to fall for some extra service to "protect" them!

Cheryl, I had something similar. Forget exactly what it was but apparently this person had some email blocking software that unless you identify with it, they wont receive your email.

I almost wasn't going to do it.

these types of programs are going to become more and more common. Microsoft is working on one as well. Get used to them if you want to do business on the net. The next great battle is the one against spam.

Even though it is against ebay's TOS, I always include my e-mail address within my auction listings. Before when I didn't do that, I had gotten this a few times and responded. Usually within an hour or two, the real person will respond. Now that I do include it, I haven't. It might be just dumb luck or the winning bidder realizes it and unblocks my address before I e-mail the WBN. Do I get spam. Sure, but that is what the delete button is for.

hey Cheryl ... I got one of those yesterday too! [after replying to a 'question to seller'] ... I also considered it 'odd' ... I just hit delete after reading it [because i didn't want that person as a customer anyway] ...

We all have to live with spam. Many of us are trying to figure out ways to manage/get rid of it. It's not going away by itself and IMO, as much as I hate it, I DO NOT want the government controling the internet.

I recently signed up with a service of the type this thread is talking about called Mailblocks. The premise is, any email not generated by a person is place in a holding box and deleted after 14 days. All email coming in that has not been previously OKed by you, will be placed in that holding box and stay there until the sender verifies that this is really sent by a person. In the case of Mailblocks, you are asked to retype a set of numbers and hit send.

I have mixed emotions about using this system. I have been trying it now for about four months and the first problem is that it is web based so it is less user firendly than using a Mail program right on your computer such as Outlook or Udora or Netscape. I have not done auctions since instituting this email system and because of the issues that are being mentioned here, I do not intend to use it with my auctions. I have eliminated the old email address and have generated one to be used only with my auctions. We'll see. I was getting four to eight KLEZ viruses a day and much of the other spam I recieved was somehow related to ebay. Interesting. Also considering not using Outlook since much of the spam and viruses are geared toward Outlook users.

I do think that more folks are going to be using these systems and if we want them as customers we need to understand their furstration with spam. These are ways we can control it ourselves instead of relying on "Big Brother"

By the way when I use Mailblocks to "ask the seller a question" I configure that message to be accepted automatically so as to not hassel a busy seller. Not that I buy that much anyway.

Just some thoughts,
Don
