I am personally torn between the "leave negative feedback" or not. Each time that I have left it,(and this is only after a month has gone by and numerous "begging" emails to get my money were ignored, they have found some bull_h_t reason to leave negative for me in return as a "pay back". I personally think the whole feedback system is a joke, and I don't know what the benefit of it is. Just something that the bidders can threaten you with if you don't kiss their "sit down" and do things their way. I am wondering if it is just better to file the FVF, put them on my "blocked bidder" list, relist it and go on? I think Ebay should have a contest and have someone come up with a much better way to rate buyers and sellers. I had one lady leave me negative feedback because her mailman bent her item I sent her and shoved it in the mailbox. She said that I need to come up with a better way to ship my items. I guess I could have enclosed a sheet of 1/2 metal and then charged her to ship that with the item. I stamp all of my items with big huge 1 1/2" tall red letters that say DO NOT BEND.. What the heck was I supposed to do? Perhaps teach English to her postal carrier? Anyway, any thoughts and suggestions on the feedback system and how others feel about it and how they use it would be great for me. Thanks for your time reading this.....karen

My one and only neg came my first month on Ebay way back in 1998. I left one for a non-paying bidder who immediately left me one back saying I stole his money. Not true of course, but I have hated that little red 1 ever since.

Now, I file FVF which will get them suspended anyway once they get 3 and move on. And, I havn't had a neg since!

Leave the neg & then when they neg you, leave a response. If you explain what the reason was, then your bidders will why.

I leave a neg whenever I have a NPB. I feel that at least I am trying to warn other sellers, factually and with no emotional ranting. if I receive a retaliatory neg (has happened once out of about 30), then I add a response to that.

others may not use feedback as it should be used, but at least I know I have. helps me sleep better at night

Everyone on this board should send Meg a email and leave her a Neg. Maybe that will help

You are probably provoking the retalitory negs. My guess is you are responding to the deadbeats bullsh**. Don't do it. Only send one reminder e-mail. The let the ebay system do the rest. (NPB & FVF) Never e-mail again to tell them the deal is off. They already know that and all it does is piss them off into giving a retalitory neg. That seems to be a common theme here. I always give negs for non-payment. I checked, and I have given 55 negs over 4 years for non-payment and received two retalitory negs in return. And with the proper response about retalitory neg, it won't hurt you. It is best to do the dirty work quietly and most of the time, life goes on without a return neg.

I've never left a negative for non-payment. I just go through the ebay process of NPB and FVF. In fact, I don't even send out a second warning anymore. They get my invoice, 10-14 days later a NPB, and 10 days after that FVF. Most people who are going to pay will do so after the NPB warning, I think that does a lot more officially coming from ebay instead of me. I block all bidders who I file FVF on.

Why don't I bother with a neg? Why should I? I would be just inviting one back, and what would that get me. I have already blocked them, so they won't be a repeat customer, and that neg NEVER goes away. Until ebay fixes the system and removes negatives from non paying bidders, I won't participate in the system the way it was designed...

Hi all...

Ditto, AHC, I agree completely and that's how I now do business with NPB's. Well put.

I've left maybe 2-3 negs for non-payment. Mostly, though, by the time I get done with the FVF they're NARU anyway.
