I am a seller, and this isn't really about the debate of whether you want snipers at the end of your auctions.

Instead, I want to know if anyone out there has used the auctionsniper service? How effective is it? Have your wins increased since using it? Is it reliable?

I recently opened a store locally, and moved my computer there so I can manage everything during slow times. The problem is being at the store when an auction closes. Hours mix me up, and I miss auctions that I normally would be around to nab in the past.

I just had a person use it on an auction. Not sure why though. They were the only bidder on the item.

I used to have more of my auctions sniped than currently is the case. I believe it is effective but a waste of $$$ for the buyre but then that's their call.

My question was more focused on using it as a Buyers tool when you are not near your computer and can't watch it.

Rusty,
Isn't that about the same as proxy bidding? If you know what you are willing to pay, if somebody out bids you over your highest price, and you have even taken a stretch to cover yourself, do you care?

General sniping comments ...

A snipe with never beat the highest proxy.

Snipes are good at beating newbies. Many sniping programs now cost money, which is an added expense. Snipers lost out to proxy bidders on the three hour ebay outage recently.

i have several customers who use sniper software, they can instruct the sniper when to place a bid and how high should it go.
like everything else in life,it does not always work ,but they seem to like it.

I am almost totally a seller, always have been, but I actually I began collecting one type of item a year or so ago, but I am too busy to worry about or even to remember to watch given auctions, or keep up with bidding, etc.

I use AuctionSniper, and love it. It saves me time, money, and I’ve won 98% of the auctions I posted with AuctionSniper. With Auction-Sniper if I see an item I want, I list it, decide on the most I’d be willing to pay for the item, and log that into Auction-Sniper. Then I can go on about my business.

It saves time as I don’t have to concern myself about the auction any longer, I don’t get caught up in bidding wars, I either win or lose it at the price I am willing to pay.

In the past I missed a number of great items because, although I put them in my Watching these Items on My eBay, I got too busy to ever go back and check on them....Auction-Sniper for me works wonderfully. I do use one of the premier programs for convenience. I did start out with their “free” program, but upgraded for my own convenience.

I use bidnapper.com and I love it. Much better than vrane.com Bidnapper has a 10 day trial and it is a lot cheaper than vrane.com. I don't know much about auctionsniper.com. Here are the prices:
Non-stop, unlimited service, $5.95/month, recurrent, for frequent eBay® buyers that want the assurance of uninterrupted service and the convenience of periodic charges.
12 months of unlimited service $42.50
6 months of unlimited service $25.95
3 months of unlimited service $15.95
12 winning snipes $19.95, for infrequent eBay® buyers that prefer to pay on a per-snipe basis. Snipes do not expire.

I use it because like jwpc, I collect a few certain things and don't have time to wait adn the auctions usually have quite a few bids by the same competitors so I love checking back later and seeing I beat a bunch of them and got the item. If I didn't snipe, we would play the bid and bid again game..this way, I put a snipe and go on about my business.

Holy cow, I just checked out auctionsniper.com and reviewed their prices. No way am I paying them 1% of my final value on the auctions I want to snipe. I think I will stay with bidnapper and pay a one time fee for unlimited usage.
