I was wondering if anyone knows/deals with a bank that doesn't charge to process an international money order,(preferably with a branch in Colorado) I have 2 Canadians right now and compass bank wants $15 per transaction, (knew free checking would come back to bite me

Ask them to send Postal Moniey orders in US funds. You can cash them at the post office.

Are the money orders Canada postal money orders if they are any USA post office will cash them if they are made out in dollars. My credit union doesn't charge me anything to cash international money orders but they must have a routing number on the bottom of them.

Don't know about Colorado, but here in Minnesota, Twin City Feredal don't charge. Also my other bank in Pennsylvania, Nova Savings Bank does not charge either. Don't be afraid to use a bank some distance away. I have had great luck with it.

I called my bank (Wells Fargo) to see if I would be charged for some personal checks (US funds) and money orders I received from Canada recently. Of course you can't talk to your real branch anymore, so the rep who took the call called the two branch offices I normally use to make my deposits..one charged and the other didn't!! (The two branches couldn't be more than a mile apart as the crow flies - go figure!)

I have had no trouble with the Post Office Cashing my Canadian Money Orders. My bank also charges $15.00 for Foreign Money Orders. I always specify US Funds on Money Orders Drawn from a US Bank, but the Canadians don't seem to get it most of the time. I have never had this problem with any other country. I may start saying that I only take money Orders through Bidpay, that should solve it.
