I purchased an item, it was sent threw Fed-x.The item was damaged, can any one tell me what the insurance deal with them is.??

Also does Fed-x charge extra for insurance ??? or are they like UPS and have insurance in their quoted rates ???

I was charged $2.20 extra for insurance.

Seller said they would be shipping USPS and came Fed-x.
This is what was said in the listing ad.I almost never ship USPS Priority mailThat is why I asked when I won and seller told me shipping by USPS.

I don't have a problem with any of the shipping company's, but don't want to be charged for insurance if included in price.

If you already paid then what difference does it make what you paid.
If it was damaged, they should give all the money back.
Was it Fedex ground or air?

fed exp first 100 dollars is included in the shipping charge.
how much is the item??
you need to report this to fed exp and they will ask you to keep the item for a few days -they may or may not have an inspector come and look at the damage.
if it is a small amount, they wont bother to send anyone to inspect the item.
the refund will go back to the seller, not you.
so you need to arrange with the seller to send you a replacement or if he is a nice guy,cut you a check instead of waiting for fed ex to refund him

Fedex Ground is insured as well for the first $100. The sender must make the claim...my experience with them is excellent regarding a quick settlement..usually a check within 10 days or so

Repack the item in the original container and with the original packing material. The sell mus initiate the claim. FedEx will issue a call tag # when the claim is filed and will be by to pick it up aand return it to the sender. Ask the seller to refund your money, including the shipping as FedEx will be refunding that to him. The only reason I can think of for him to charge you $2.20 for insurance is if it is an item that FedEx does not insure (such as neon or fluorescent signs) and he had to get coverage through Upic or some other third party.

Thank you to everyone that has replied and for your help. I know nothing about Fed-x , as I have never used them.

The item was a Fostoria dish and I paid $70.00 for the bid and flat $10.00 shipping rate with $2.20 extra for insurance.

I have sent an email to the seller, will wait and see ???? {holding my breath} and {fingers crossed}

I won't be buying anything again from this seller, No email at end of auction, No email to let me know they received payment, NO email to let me know they shipped.Am I being too picky ??? I don't think so, 1 email would have been nice, but I got none.
The only email I got was when I sent her an email to let her know that payment was sent and she should receive it soon, and I asked how the item would be shipped ??
I hope this seller is better dealing with problems then with the normal routine of winning auctions with buyers.

It does make a difference, that I paid for something [insurance] and it was included in the cost of shipping,{fed-x} But listed separate and was required. If the shipping was done by USPS, fine, no problem. The seller riped me off of $2.20 for their pocket. That is stealing. It was sent ground.

so you paid 12.20 for shippping.
i woould expect ups ground as air is much more expensive ,sounds like your item could be heavy too.
the only time i use fed exp air is when someone really want it fast and i paid 4.00 for pickup fee plus shipping.
you are not being ripped off,fed exp shipping includes 100 dollars insurance.
i dont think like the other posts said you have to ship it back, you should immediately report to fed exp of the breakage .
they will send the payment to seller,so make sure seller reimburse you, else she is making money twice.

That bowl was fully covered by the insurance built into the base rate. You were ripped off for $2.20. Be sure that you let them know that you know FedEx will be refunding the shipping charges to them and you expect the shipping to be refunded to you also, including the $2.20. There is a world of difference between USPS and FedEx claims handling procedures. Log onto the FedEx site and download a copy of their claim form. It will illustrate perfectly what their proceedure is. It's also handy to have for future reference in the event you ship something through them. It's in PDF format so you will need Adobe Acrobat reader to view it. You can download that from their site also if you need it.

it depends on how much the fed exp base rate is,it could be 12.20.
as long as the seller handles this issue in a professional manner and you get full reimburement ,no one is ripping no one off.

I sent the seller an email on Saturday. I was going to give them til today to reply.Holiday weekend and all.
So far, time is 8:pm and no email response from seller. She is on the same time zone, OH.
I sent another email to her by the same account, and also sent her another one from my freebie acct.
If I do not get a reply from her by Wednesday night, then I am going to pull contact info.
Covering my end of communication, should I wait longer, or what do you think ??
I did not call Fed-x, as I wanted to hear from the seller first.
She does have some auctions ending tomorrow night.

Stopwhining...Wrightsracing lives in Florida. Even if the dish had been sent from Seattle to a rural address near Key West the shipping would have been $9.00 for a 6 pound package. I doubt that a Fostoria dish is going to weigh more than 6 pounds. The answer is obvious. It's a dusty trail from the seller's house to the FedEx office and she needed a few extra bucks to buy a 6 pack.

the seller may have changed her mind and decide to ship fed exp instead of usps, things like this do happen.
it is so petty to debate in the dark if seller is ripping buyer 2.20.
if buyer would only pick up the phone and report to fed exp, instead of emailing and emailing and emailing the seller and ask where the outhouse is ,the world would be a much better place.
