I should never list anything when I'm tired. I started uploading auctions and accidentally listed a Japanese pot that I had meant to do more research on. Good thing I caught it before it got any bids. I would have lost out on the description alone! Turns out this little pot is Satsuma and the artist is Kinkozan - a very expensive little piece. And to think I bought it at the Flea for $2. It's amazing when you consider it's only 3" tall with the lid on it. What a steady hand this Kinkozan must have had. The funniest thing is, I missed the signature! How unlike me on a piece of Japanese earthenware! It's signed on the outside of the jar instead of the bottom. Whew! Anyone else ever have a close call that could have lost them some money?

YIKES!

Yeah, lesson learned: next time I find 100 year old plates in a clueless junque store, I'll slow down & launch smarter!

Thankfully, it looks like I MAY recoup my investment by the time the auctions close...

Very nice Pot Cheryl. I'm sure it will garner a pretty penny for you. But you know what? I was thinking similar to this thread last night, only along the opposite lines.

Sometimes, I feel like I waste TOO much time researching and dont get enough listed because of it. I'd like to try that hammertime's analyst data program, but dont have the $179 to put into it. So I guess I will continue to get tired, too.

Things I've researched and thought should get xxx price; then dont. Then sh** I've just put out there comes back and surprises me.

Look at Tom's plates! Off on a wing and prayer!! Maybe its my mood right now, but if you spend too much time researching, then you have very little inclination or energy to list. (at least that is what happens to me) So I am going to start winging some things. Good, Bad or Indifferent. So wish me luck...lol!

I know exactly what you mean about spending too much time researching. I'm just surprised at myself because I've been studying orientalia. I don't feel too bad though. My brother who is far better than I am missed the mark also. Best of luck to you on your winging! I did that this week with a Fiesta vase. I posted a question here about it and then just listed. It's now up over $200 with 5 more days to go. Yea!

May everyone's sales meet or exceed their expectations!

Cheryl, to me, that signature is a bunch of squiggly lines. (sigh) I'll never be as good as you. You are totally amazing!!

Thanks very much for sharing!!

Hello
Just a side note. I believe is Hammertap not Hammertime and you used to be able to try it for 30 days free. I tried it and found the information interesting but rather useless.

Second you can cancel a listing with bidders just as easy as with no bidders.

I do not contact them as most don't realize what happened and by contacting them you just damage your reputation.

As said side thought...

Here's what I wish I had the discipline to do: As soon as I bring an item home, I do the research on it and plant a post-it on it for future reference.

Of course, by that time the categories may have changed again. . . .

Yeah, Cheryl, you are pretty darn good with that oriental stuff!!

Roads, I always seem to find pieces that are not in books, that I dont know the pattern name...blah, blah, blah. I think I need to get a wholesaler and do clothes. Would be so much easier.

dacreson: LOL!!! Yes, Hammertap it is! I'm doing hammertime: "Cant touch this...da.d.a.a....(boy, he went bust big time!)

Anyway, I have it bookmarked to look into it. But 30 days always sneaks up on you very fast though, and I hate putting CC all over the place for "free trials." It is good to know you dont think its worth it, anyway. (Looks a little complicated, but right now anything would be better than scrolling ebay to make mental notes on market data on items!)

I always have good intentions when it comes to research but if you purchase to much you don't have time. I try to deal in only things I know, well what I think I know. My husband just buys then asks me what it is and heaven forbid he picks up the strangest items.

I agree clothes would be easier. But winning the lottery would be the best then I could have a hugh garage sale and BE DONE...

Sometimes, when posting when one is tired is a VERY bad idea.

A few years ago I listed a 1800, European, mahogany, hand carved buffet.

On the last day of bidding, my son, who lives in Texas (I'm in Alabama) was checking my auctions, and noticed instead of reserving it for $1,600, I had it reserved at $160!!!

PTL, it sold for $1,800, with a pick up from a neighboring state.

*********

My biggest mistake was on one, of a set of STAR JARS of THE OZ collection. I had 2 of the "Ruby Slipper" jars, the highly collectible on, and the standard one.

I MEANT to post the "standard one," but put up the picture of the "highly collectible one," which would have also broken a complete set!!!

The auction already had tons of bids, when someone realized what I might have done, e-mailed me, they also notified all the other bidders of my boo boo, and 99% of the bidders withdrew their bids to keep me from having to sell the "highly collectible one" at the price of the "regular" one.

BUT I decided it was my fault, and told everyone, I would stand by the ad, although it would be a costly mistake for me..........GUESS WHAT, the winner of the auction, not only purchased the highly collectible "Red Slippers," but the complete set I had of the issue, and instead of the sale being about $750 - it turned out at $5,000!!!

YEA!!!!

**

I have done such a could of times over my 7 years on auctions - just saw on my "review" before post, what I "THOUGHT" the auction should say, not what it said, and had a few close calls, but never a loss, as most were caught in time.

we had many in a series of ltd. ed. steins with eagle themes, most of them had multiple of the same stein ... when i listed a few here and there, i kept getting 30 or 35$ for them, so, i decided to list the rest of them with $35 buy-it-nows ... WELL, it didn't occur to me that ONE of them, of which we only had one of that numbered style, sold quickly for the BIN, and we immediately got payment and an email from the buyer stating the one he just bought to complete his set was very rare/hard-to-find, he'd never found that one on ebay before, and even contacted the the manufacturer and they had none of that one to sell him, only all the other ones in the set ... so, that might have been one of my biggest 'mistake' sells ... ... there were so many of this type of stein around, i figured they were ALL worth $35 each .... oh well, let us bask in the glory of the things we hoped to get a $5 offer on that went for hundreds. ...
