I shipped a nice old Coleman cooler to someone clear accross the nation to California. Somewhere on the east coast it was damaged and it was sent back to my address. The package was uninsured. I promptly did a Paypal refund and left the folks POS feedack. Today I get a Neutral from them. Is this really grounds for a neutral?

Gives you a helpless feeling, doesn't it? Assuming it was packed properly, you shouldn't feel bad about what the shipper did. By the same token, the buyer was expecting a cooler, and all he got was a refund. His disappointment is reflected by your neutral. This is one of those times you shouldn't have posted feedback first.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

I don't think it is fair but there is nothing you can do about it. The buyer obviously blamed you for the damage not the carrier. They weren't thinking apparently. Are they new buyers? If so I would send them a nice email explaining how the FB response works so the next unfortunate seller doesn't get ripped.

If you refunded their money they should have been thankful.I think I would respond to the neutral....Something like Refunded money on Package because it got damaged by Post Office Then future sellers will have a heads up that they are kinda unfair, and your buyers will know it wasn't your fault.

Sounds like another convert to leave feedback after. I also switched to that system maybe 2 years ago now, after I got neutrals on an international shipment that got lost. I insured this package, and paid them after 30 days, even though I had to wait 90 days to file a claim. I haven't looked back since I switched, and have not received any negs on that account, and only 1 neutral.

Hello
Visualize this. I just drug out my big soap box, set up the mike and have climbed on.

Their have been many threads here for a LONG time about sellers should never leave feed back first...EVER as in "don't do it".

Some seem to be more concerned about their feed back numbers than selling stuff so they ignore hard learned advice and rush out to give feed back first and then are hurt when they get nailed as they will sooner or later.

This advise have been around for a long time because we learned a bitter lesson the hard way and wanted to help other sellers.

Returning feedback is the sellers ONLY defense on Ebay

All right back to visuliztion. I just got down and put the box and mike away. Kind regards to all.......

I've learned my lesson...NEVER leave feedback first. I now leave it only if someone leaves it for me first. Probably shouldn't be that way, but when there are so many nit picky people out there that will complain about anything and everything, I feel more comfortable doing it this way. I've only gotten one negative and that was because I sold a Dept 56 item and didn't have the box, so the guy left me a negative. What a moron - I never stated I ever had the box. No, I'm not still bitter - yes I am - no I'm not - yes I am...

It was unfair!!
I have never left feedback first - even when everyone was crying "But they paid fast and that deserves good FB" I have always said it's not over til it over - maybe they can't read and only think you said it was a size 16 not 6 or don't like the pink peanuts that you used. Who knows.

There's nothing fair about feedback.

I got a neutral that said "handled problem well" it was over a broken teapot.

I swear some sellers don't understand the system & think neutral is appropriate for transactions that are not completed.

Not as bad as a neg, but it still hurts to see it when you did all you could.

I got a neutral because:

item I received looked smaller than pic

She didn't read the size of the figurine in my auction and it looked bigger on her monitor.

I'd like to play devil's advocate here..I always leave feedback first ( or try to anyway - sometimes I get backlogged) - it's more efficient for me to do so. I post the feedback when I send shipment/payment received notification - that way I don't have to do anything more on the auction. Time is money!! I have yet to be burned but I don't think I would change my procedure even if I were unfairly "negged" or "neutered" (sorry - its 2 am and i couldnt resist).

LOL ! Toasted!

I still think most neutrals are unfair but I guess it's better than a negative.

Actually when I read feedbacks I think many neutrals and negatives are unfair. Very few seem to be given for legitimate reasons.
