when searching ebay for specific items I see an item listed as "Vintage", "Rare", "hard to find". then the same seller has maybe 5 or more of the same items listed.

why don't some sellers stop and think before listing? if you have more than one of an item and expect to get multiple bids, why not just list one at a time?

By listing multiple items at the same time, you cut down on your bids. the bidder can just bid on the cheapest, not bid on the only ONE you have listed at that time. you might as well put a buy-it-now for the starting price. works just about the same.

JMHO, thanks for letting me vent.

I often do this & it hasn't seem to hurt my sales. Right now, I have some Franciscan plates (3), cups & saucers (4) Wedgewood Plates (4) All listed as individual items.

It can still be rare or hard to find if one seller has the only items. I see a lot of items that say rare in the title end without a bid with a 99 cent start bid with no reserve. It was rare alright.

Rarriffle--I agree completely! I never post listings against my own listings. I always space them out over a period of at least a week apart and sometimes a month if I have two or three relatively rare collectibles. If buyers who are searching for my widget see it too often in the listings, they can figure another will always come along later. Just my own thinking, of course, but it makes sense to me.

there is so much competition already, why be our own competitor?

I learned this the hard way a couple of years ago (by shooting myself in the foot lol)
What is really bad is when it says Rare and the next 5 listing in the search are the same seller and say the same thing - for heaven sake launch a few minutes apart at least!!!
But I still do it if I have crystal stemware of the same pattern or something like that. I'll list 2 in each auction and state that I have 10 total listed for example. I may offer to split shipping if they win them all. I do very well that way - better than average and better than if I had listed all 10 together. I sometime split the categories up too.
The customers love the combined shipping.

when your selling china or stemware, that is different. you usually need more than one place setting (unless you are really antisocial)lol.

when you are selling collectibles of any kind, it is just suicide to list more than one identicle item at a time.
