Has anyone else had a problem with buyers clicking the buy it now option in fixed price auctions? I have used fixed prices on many dutch auctions since it was introduced. Never had a problem until about 10 days ago.

I now have had 4 different bidders in the past 10 days click the buy it now option twice. The reason they stated was they didn't think it went through so they clicked it again. Each only wanted one item and not two. Now getting a refund for the second items is not too tough, just have to wait the 7 day period, but it does take product off of the boards. Is ebay's system becomming so dial up unfriendly that bidders can't even bid without trouble?

Anyone else have this problem lately?

Yes, I have.
Trying to unload some rubber stamps, in a dutch auction, that just won't sell I was practically giving them away free post included with BIN.
Only had one bidder & she double clicked, same reason, she didn't think it went through.

I didn't even file I was so disgusted, one sale & one mistake.

I had three last week - one of the women bought 3, her computer locked up, she restarted, signed back on and bought a 4th. When she immediately sent payment for 1 I knew there was a problem.

There neeeds to be an extra step in the process to if not end, at least decrease the problems.

I run a lot of Buy It Now auctions and this has been going on for at least a month and a half or two months for me.

Uggh, I thought it was only my buyers. I have a couple thousand buy it now dutch style auctions up at all times and they do this all the time. Drives me NUTS. But when the complain that they only wanted 1 I reply with:
Thanks for the email. Currently, I don't subtract items off an invoice that are won on ebay because of the fees ebay charges for every item purchased by a buyer. I will be more than happy to exchange it for any of the other items I have listed on ebay that are the same price. Just email me and let me know which substitute you want (don't bid/buy it from ebay) just email me directly and I will note your invoice.

That has worked so far, except for a few who just send the money minus the ones they didn't want..that irks me. Ebay needs to have a better way to handle this.

BTW - I do let the off the hook when they do that. I explain that they have two options.
1) I file for fee refunds and explain what that entails
2) I give them what my ebay fee on the extra sale was and tell them that if they include that with their payment on the other items we can just wipe the slate clean and all are happy.

Most opt for 2 and are grateful for not having the mar on their record.

alwaysfun & Fenix03,

Why penalize your customers for an Ebay problem? If you customer only wants one, sell them one. Then all you have to do is wait for 7 days after the auction ends, then file NBP with the reason that you both agreed to not complete the transaction. Then you will be able to file FVF immediately. In fact the NPB will take you right to the FVF page. This way, you get your Ebay fees back and the bidder isn't penalized for ebay's screw up. Granted you won't have as many items up for bids, but since you did get the one sale, you at least got your fees back.

The real fix for this problem would be for everyone to e-mail ebay notifing them of the problem so they can begin on a fix.

If anyone knows the proper e-mail address to send something like that to, please post it here.

The majority of my items are fixed price as well and many are dutch format.

The double buying boo-boo's are growing to epic proportions.

If they email me soon after their boo-boo I let them off the hook on the duplicates once the 1st one is paid. I email them that in about 7 days they will get a notice from Ebay about the 2nd one being cancelled that they can simply delete that email.

For those double buyers who don't email me and pay right away I wait. I also get those who do email me then not pay for either. So I file normal NPB for both.

It is getting ridiculous. I haven't bought anything in a dutch fixed price so I don't know what these people are seeing on their screens. Ebay needs to be more clear when bidders go to the 2nd screen when they click the quantity that THEY PLAN TO BUY so that they don't repeat the same purchase TWICE and sometimes 3 DAMNED TIMES

I emailed ebay about this problem.

The response I got back was to put a Big Warning in my listing to not click buy it now more than once....how pathetic!

lowprofile,

What was the e-mail address you e-mailed. Maybe if many people e-mail them, something will get done. Otherwise they may think it is an isolated problem.

I am an experienced eBay seller and buyer and had the "double click" problem last week as a buyer and can describe what happens. I clicked on "Buy it Now" on a mutilple items listing and absolutely no change occurred on the screen. As I remember, the screen normally goes immediately to a "pay now?" type screen after clicking on "Buy it Now".

The bug is that eBay actually does record the fact that the buyer did agree to "Buy it Now" but many times does not indicate it to the buyer in any way, and does not go to the proper screen saying that the buyer made the commitment to buy. The auction page just sits there. The buyer thinks they messed up and that they really did not properly use "Buy it Now" or that eBay did not register the purchase. So they click again. They may still not get the "you made a commitment to buy" screen and click yet again.

Hmmm... this results in additonal "sales" for Ebay daily that no buyer planned to make. No wonder eBay not in any hurry to fix it, especially if sellers try to force buyers to follow through.

If Ebay gets enough complaints, they may eventually fix it. Maybe.

Patty
