I have a positive feedback rating of 25 (no negs). Would you purchase software from me for $60? The retail price is actually $149. Thanks for the replies.

We all started with less than 25 fb's. How you present your merchandise and yourself by your listings and communications will have a big effect on your sales success. To answer your question more directly, yes, if I needed what you are selling I'd buy from you.
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

I would see if your feedback is from buying or selling, see how articulate you are in your auction(I can weed out idiots by simple spelling errors, etc.) and if those two passed, then yes. $60 isn't much, but wouldn't bid over a $100 on someone unless they had more feedback as a seller.
That is my opinion but it seems most buyers don't pay a bit of attention when bidding then cry when they are ripped off. It pays to be a smart consumer

I have and will continue to purchase from new sellers. I have seen sellers with thousands of feedback suddenly decide to keep the money and run so there are no guarantees.
As Max40 said, how you present yourself, your listing, your TOS and if you accept Paypal would all be deciding factors, not the low feedback. I received my one and only neg when I started selling. It was retaliatory so I had 10 positives and 1 neg. Now, I have over 2000 positives and still the 1 neg but, thank goodness, it didn't stop people from bidding

Sure I would. I might feel even better about it if there were some sort of guarantee, or if you'd sold a similar item before and could cut and paste the feedback you'd gotten from that sale into the auction description. Just thinking "out loud" here. . . .

Hmmmm, Lindajean mentioned do they take pay pal. let's say they do,,,How would one get to their pay pal information BEFORE they bought anything to find the sellers reputation information?
posted on September 11, 2003 02:27:16 PM new
I just clicked on the pay pal logo on one of own auctions and it took me to the sign up page. One there, where or what would one do to see the reputation number?

Just got back from pp. I found reputation info. It refers to ME seeing MY reputation, screw me, I know my reputation(hahahaha and so do alot of people in my real life . how does a potentential buyer look at my reputation? I never signed in. Just as if I were a buyer I clicked the pp icon.

Well, I'd buy from you if the price was right and I wanted
what you had for sale. But, I'm a real cheapskate when it
comes to software. Most people aren't from what I see.
I just don't put much stock into feedback anyway except
to try to keep mine in good standing. Of course if you had
a bunch of negs. I'd probably shy away.

TOOOOOOOO Funny,,,,shhhhhhh!,,as in quiet,,, I went to a friends auction and clicked the pay pal icon to see what would happen,(I picked a R e a l l y cheap priced auction, just in case,,,,,) right to the sign up page. I did a little reading of the BENEFITS,,,,they mention what CAN'T be done with your funds but they fail to mention what CAN be done......and we ALL know what CAN be done....and yer SOL.

The only items I ever bought on Ebay were from Power Sellers with a high feedback rating. All the items were just as stated and quickly shipped never a problem. Sorry to say I believe sticking with the Pros is very important.

Jack...I agree 100%. I have an account I use for consignments, most of which is high end and antique items. The feedback on that account is under 100. Even though the positive rating is 100%, there is no way you can examine the feedback on that account and determine that I am a powerseller who has been on Ebay since 1998. I have had several bidders with feedback under 10 snipe in the last 10 seconds of an auction, indicating they have been around more than a few days. Anyone who relies 100% on a sellers feedback rating to make a decision on whether or not to bid, is ripe for a screwing. Some of the earlier postings about examining the presentation, photos etc under a microscope make more sense. If in doubt, and there's more than a few bucks involved, email the seller and see what kind of answers he gives to your questions. I would venture to say that 90% of the sellers on this board have a spare account with a low feedback rating.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

If the software was somethiong I wanted or needed, Yeah I would bid. I have bought software before & have had no problems. I will only buy new factory sealed, NO copies. I am working on Windows 2000 that I bought about 6 weeks ago. Saved at LEAST 50% of retail price. I shouldn't try to type after a bottle of Merlot. Had to edit 2X

JACK, There is no way I would put anything in a glass of Absolut but ice. You sound like someone I can relate too. My GF drinks Gin, but thats OK. My first drunk was on Gin & that was over 50 yrs. ago & I still can't stand the smell of Gin.

Jack, I don't pay to much attention to the Paypal info on a seller, so I'm not sure, but I believe it shows how many transactions they have had beside their name. I only bid if they accept Paypal. That's why I said the feedback wasn't that important to me, but accepting Paypal is.
I started a new seller ID for just the movie memorabilia I am liquidating. I was a little nervous at first with a 0 by my name, but sold 50% of the first weeks listings so I don't think it matters to very many people. Some of the lots went for $50 and up. I have only had that ID a couple of months and I have over 200 positives on it now.
posted on September 12, 2003 09:18:29 AM new
Linda,,,,If you have pay pal YOU can see how many transactions you have had. ( But what do WE care)Mine says 1000. But how would a potential bidder be able to find that? (I mean pay pal touts it increases our crediblilty....
I really have a hunch they CAN'T see that info UNTIL they actually make a transaction. So,,as far as our credibility it's useless information.
Shoot! maybe they were ALL from wining and dining All my Ladies!!!!!

I might be a little concerned if its software. Only because all the computer categories have so much fraud. But I think if most of the fb was positive, and I needed that software I'd probably take a chance.
