We have a grundle of old photos all curled some or a lot. Short of putting them face down with a heavy object on them, is there some secret or trick you know?

Thats the best method I know but be careful if they are too curled because the emulsion can break away from the paper if you "stretch" it too much when trying to flatten out the photo.

Contact a museum in your area. they will have an archivist that can help you.

Dampen the back lightly with a spay bottle and press until dry. Try it on junk photos first as no telling what they have been exposed to so some react badly.

There was a fairly recent thread about this subject. You can search for it here.

Lower left corner of the page is the search engine. Make sure that you check the also search msg ctr. box first.

AuctionAce--Thanks (and thanks to the rest of you, too!) I tried searching but all I ever got was my own thread here. Tried "uncurl photographs", "uncurl pictures," "photographs," nada. Probably doing something majorly wrong.

Soak the photos in water dry between paper with weight on them. You may have to change the paper a few times and it may take a few days but they will be like new.

I used to have my own photo lab and we used a photo drier but the above process will work fine. Water won't hurt the photos as one of the last processes for finishing photos is to wash the chemicals out with clear water.

This also works if photos are stuck together. Soak them apart and dry as mentioned above.

Here's the July thread, odd that it was Roadsmith asking almost the same question?

What is a grundle?

Hey, Ace--Yep, I'd forgotten I'd asked about rolled-up paper. I even printed it off to save! But these photos, seems to me, would be a different matter--would need to be treated differently.

We have an awful lot of rolled-up stuff in the stored family boxes and boxes that we're plowing through.

Kiara: We lived in Utah for 21 years, and "grundle" was used in our city to mean "a whole big bunch." Hope there isn't some esoteric, profane, or right-wing meaning to that word!

Since we moved to California two years ago, I haven't used the word until today! How quickly we forget.

Yikes, Roadsmith!

I just googled it and found it in a dictionary and I'm almost sorry I asked.

It must be a regional thing because I have never heard the word. Or else the meaning changed over the years.....

Ohhhhhhh, Kiara, I'm dyin' out here in So. Calif. Dyin'. Proper person that I am. Who would've guessed there was even a WORD for that?!

Fat chance it won't be the talk of the town on Vendio EO. Jeez. If I could just delete a whole thread. . . .
