I have had this ring for many years. The stone is a diamond chip...took it to a jeweler about 10 years ago... what I want to know is, about how old is it and what is it called (the part around the diamond)...

is that gold I see wearing off the ring? If so, I dont think it is a real diamond. The "chip" doesnt look like a chip at all. Are you sure it's a diamond?

I wonder if the clear material isn't Lucite or something similar. If a jeweler said it was a diamond chip then I go with that. The design is a bit gaudy but that style goes and goes into vogue all the time.

Paloma, yes it's a diamond "chip". what you are seeing in the center is a silver metal, the chip is very tiny in the center of that.
what era would you say it is from?
I have a couple of brooches with this same type of plastic in them...they are both sterling surrounding the "plastic"....one antique dealer called it crystal but it is definitely plastic of some type

I know! I know what it is!
It's called CAMPHOR glass! I had a pendant from round about WWII, but I think it usually dates earlier than that. I've seen it called "deco". I said that mine was etched glass. I think it's ordinarily found with sterling.

Whatever it's made of, it's very pretty and I love it.

this ring holds a very special place in my heart...
28 years ago, when hubby and I were married, we had 9 children that we brought into the marriage. He had 6 and I had 3.
anyway, that weekend we stopped at this house sale and purchased an old biscuit tin full of buttons and sewing items. the ring was in that tin in the same condition it is in today.
since we had no money at that time to buy rings, we have always referred to this as "my wedding ring"
