Hi all,

I'm not sure where this pretty glass dish was made or what it's for. Maybe a candy dish?

It's nice quality - the bottom is ground. About 8" across and about 2 1/2" high. I don't think it's particularly new - there's wear around the bottom.

Seems to be a little thin to be Murano. The older Murano I've seen is thicker and less refined in design.

Any clues?

Thanks,

Lucy

Hi, Lucy! For some reason this dish has a 30s look to me, although I suppose it could be 50s. No other helpful suggestions, though. That's a very pretty yellow.~Adele

Hi Lucy, I'm no help as always lol but I think it's pretty ...Maybe amber art glass ...heres some candle holders with the same wave going on http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2662360068&category=988 Your piece looks older ...Sometimes the amber color does good and other times you can't give it away

Looks like a candy dish of some kind, maybe a candy dish Frank Lloyd Wright might have had in his living room perhaps.

Hi all,

Adele - Yeah, it does have that fluid look.

Toasted - amber art glass - good search words. How about this - it's a cereal dish - amber waves of grain? LOL!

Ace - Yeah, Frank Lloyd Wright - don't I wish?

I think I'll take a look at Blenko. I remember seeing a TV special about them and it reminds me of their style.

Thanks for the hints!

I had a "double" bowl similar to this a long time ago and for some reason seem to remember it as being Viking Glass..you might want to check it out. Good Luck

Hi Ms24,

I'm leaning towards Viking also. The ground glass base, the uniformity of the upturned rim, the color...

I thought this screamed Czech. I took a look at my Czech glass book and sure enough, they are very fond of combining yellow with a black rim and black base. The forms also tend to take a fluid shape. A book value would be $50 to $75.

That being said, unless you have a sticker, mark or picture in a reliable book, there's no way to know for sure.
