I need help from someone...I am always so impressed with the knowledge some of the folks on this board have. I am totally ignorant when it comes to this type item.

I bought a box lot at an auction and in it was a box that states Franciscan Desert Rose..set of 4 12 oz goblets. The goblets that were in the box were 12 oz but they are clear..no design. Does anyone know if they are really Franscican? I kind of think they just used this box to keep the goblets from getting broke. Guess what I am asking is..can Franciscan be clear or does it always have a design on it?

Thank you!!

They have to have a pattern to be worth anything. These are probably not Franciscan.

I'm sure miscreant is right. Just one question, though. Is the glass clear and uncolored or does it have a color or tint to it? Seems I heard many years ago that some pottery mfrs. made glass goblets to go with their pottery. . . . Some wiser person here will have exactly the answer you want.

You might check Replacements Ltd., search under Franciscan for goblets and see what you can find.

I'm glad you asked this question; it's an opportunity for some of us to learn again some new thing today. Good luck!

Imperial Glass produced matching glassware for Dessert Rose, Apple and Ivy patterns. Your glasses have to have the hand painted rose on them to be of any value.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Thank all of you for your help. I am suspicious that someone bought the Franciscan Goblets and used the box to get rid of some cheaper ones. They are just clear glass so don't think they are anything special. They were not what I bought the box lot for anyway but would have been nice to get that kind of surprise.

You might want to try just listing the box - it would be a nice item for someone that does have the correct glasses. Their glasses would then become mint in BOX!

Okay, I've lurked here for about 3 years and now I have to speak up. Everyone here is so knowlegeable and helpful. I'm a Desert Rose freak! I have a set that was stared by a friend who had more money and stuff than she knew what to do with - anyway - she gave me a great set of Desert Rose. I'm still buying and building it up; adding different pieces that I didn't have.

Those are not Franciscan Desert Rose goblets. Do an eBay search and you'll see that they do have the pattern. If they're plain, they're not Desert Rose. You never know, though, they may be something else worth having and selling.

Okay, I've come out of the closet now, you all may see me more often!
