Are there any ridges in the bottom of the cookie jar or is it perfectly flat?

It looks like it could be a Brush-McCoy to me. But I've been know to make a few mistakes. I'm only human.

Check out this link...doesn't it look like yours?

cta, that looks exactly like the same one. I have emailed the seller to see if that one is marked or is in the books.

Auctionace, It also looks like the one you linked to. but mine has no markings anywhere, maybe a common mold.

I found a reference to it. It's official name is Laughing Hippo. Unfortunately, there is no picture of it. Your picture of the base does indicate that it is a Brush McCoy jar. My book gives a $750.00 value, but that was when cookie jars were hot. You should do fine with it.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Website prices and price guide can be a tad misleading. I bought a Takahashi Tom Cat mug and saw it listed on a web site at $63. Couldn't sell it for $3.95 at ebay because there were several offered at the same price.

I found if you find something uncommon to your area and you do an eBay search everyone that has the same one will auction it. I am sure it would do better in a local market, that is if you have an auction house close by.

Brush McCoy is not uncommon for our area, central Ohio here.

Before the McCoy factory closed (now I am showing my age again), they had a store where you could buy irregulars or seconds. After looking closely at the glazing, I think this may have come from there years ago.

Do you see on the dark circles of glaze on the bottom? this is where the glaze ran in little puddles (thicker there).

well, I spoke to the woman I purchased it from. It was purchased in Zanesville over 40 years ago for her grandmother. I also talked to my favorite antique dealer in town. he tells me this particular jar was not marked.

wish me luck with the auction next week!
