Last night while going thru unpaid auction I noticed a strange phenomenon -I had a string of 16 consecutive sales, over a week old with no payment. I sent out notices to all and this morning got a clue into the problem. Three of the buyers emailed me that they had recieved Vero notices that the auctions had been pulled and not to complete the sale. One problem. I had recieved no such notices, there is no Vero violation and all the auctions in question are still showing. One of the people forwarded the notice whiich bear similaritites to the real Vero notices (I recently got one on an item I purchased) but isnot quite right. Looks like one of my competitors has found a new way to combine spoofs with auction interference.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

That's very a sneaky thing for a competitor to do and foolproof if he has very good computer skills. There must be a lot of that type of thing going on at ebay with the dog-eat-dog competitiveness of many of the sellers.
