Ok, even though I think you guys are much too sophisticated to care ...have you seen Oprah Winfrey's New auction? Chairs that John F. Kennedy Jr., sat on. Started at 100. already up to 5,000.
You know she will do well. Everything she touches does. (BTW you have to pre-qualify before you bid.)
Item number: 3356048370

Ace, thanks for posting the hyperlink. (Did you see your friend Meg on her show today?)
Kiara, LOL. My cats did a job on my leather sofa too, .....She also has ski outfits for sale, signed ?..various sizes during her weight ups and downs if your interested....haha
Only thing I don't get with it is, if it's for charity, why is it NOT Tax deductible? Always thought all charitable contributions were deductible?

Isn't the rule that a charitable donation is tax-deductible if there isn't any goods received. I thought that if you bought something and got a material good from the sale then it isn't tax-deductible.
I could be wrong but that is what my tax man told me a couple years ago.

I always thought you could write it off. The PBS auctions and Beg-athons pledge nights that give away stuff with donations must be tax write-offable or many wouldn't donate?

Only the amount paid over the fair market value is deductible. The disclaimer was probably put in the auction by Oprah's lawyers to keep her from getting sued by someone who gets in trouble with the IRS because he didn't know what the law was.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

yeah, but her good friend Meg will give her a pass this time-
not like us peons!
You know what, I was talking to my lawyer, and he said "You can't start a business in California! You have to jump through so many hoops there, it's impossible!"
I said "If a screwy company like ebay can start there, anything can!"
"And All Shall be Well, and All Shall be Well, and All Manner of Things Shall be Well"

hmmm...just rechecked this auction. Up to 10 grand now. All newbie bidders.
Either she attracted some new buyers to Ebay from her show; or they are spiking it to make it look good?? Guess that's ok because its for charity though.
Only one bidder with more than 2FB so far. But I'd like to see some real ebayers come in on the end.
