I 'm using internet postage ( stamps.com) for convenience and to save time.Hovever I don't see the point in using it anymore due usps.
let me explain.Eventhough I print postage at home, the usps makes me wait in line to hand the packages to the clerk.

for packages under 1 lbs I can just drop them in the steet box. But most of my packages weighs 4 lbd.

Any ideas or advise how to avoid waiting in line with my packages already have postage prepaid ?

thanks you

The post office does have a pick-up service. But its like 12.50 per p/u or something.

If thats worth your time not standing in line you can try that.

Talk to a more knowledgeable postal employee. On a particularly slow day at our local Post Office, they looked up the regulation that says that if you use an Internet Endicia (not the company, the postal mark) - you are a "known customer" and do not need to hand over your packages to a postal employee - for ANY weight.

If you can't find a "friendly" postal employee, ask to talk with your Postmaster. If that doesn't work, bring cookies and tell them that you had leftovers from your birthday party... You'd be surprised how a little sugar goes a long way!

You should be able to drop them in the box, if they fit alright, even if over a pound.

Some Postal Employees are ignorant, so you do have to deal with those type and risk it coming back to you.

You might see if your Post Office has a dock.

Mine has a dock that I can drop off up to 6:30 PM, hour and a half after lobby closes.

Insurance is main thing you can not do at dock, so U-Pic insurance is best.

I guess I'm odd because I don't mind my trips to the PO. I've met some really interesting people. My clerk also sells on Ebay and we'll gab sometimes if there's no line. I was standing at the counter talking to her one day when this man dressed in a nice suit came in. He appeared to be oblivious to us talking because he came behind the rope, got down on his knees and began fishing for change people had dropped. At one point he took out a nail file and was digging under the counter. After he got all the change he got up and walked out. We had one heck of a laugh over that one.

I print my postage off the postal web site. It's free and I've never had one bit of trouble. My clerk told me they are working on being able to purchase the insurance right along with the postage.

I don't know how stamps.com works, if you pay a fee, like Endicia, but the fee ($9.95 a month) I pay is well worth it, and I walk past a very long line and drop all mine at the end of the counter, no problems (except the customers in line, I've had nasty comments from some! but then they see I am not cutting in front of them! )

I would do what the others suggested, talk to the Postmaster or some superviser, if that doesn't work, you may want to check out Endicia, though heck, if they aren't allowing you to just drop them, they may not even let you with Endicia?

Cheryl, that was my Mikey, he does odd things like that. LOL! (just kidding!) that is funny though about the guy picking up change!

This is on the stamps.com website:

The USPS says you have to personally hand a postal clerk packages over a certain weight. Does this apply to packages I send using Stamps.com?
Unlike home-originated packages exceeding 1 lb. in weight, any Internet Postage-stamped mail piece exceeding 16 oz. can be deposited in a home mailbox, street drop box, or USPS station drop, including metered mail drop boxes. With Stamps.com you now have a convenient way of mailing packages, without being subject to the strict mailing regulations utilized for security reasons. Remember that the USPS has the personal information you supplied on your postage license application.
