Everyone here gives so much fantastic information that I am hoping you can help me help a friend. Here is the short story :

My friend bought an item on ebay described as perfect condition, mint tags, yada yada. It took 10 days for the 1st email from the seller even though he emailed her 3 hours after the item ended. She went on vacation twice, wouldn't answer emails, etc. Finally about 3 weeks later the seller sent the item to an authenticator. The item was real (rare beanie baby...I know, I know) but the tags were in absolutely horrible condition. He received pics from the authenticator and emailed the seller who agreed to refund his money. He received the refund on the 17th. This is now one month. Seller was rude about it, delayed refunding, etc. So, he left a negative feedback last night for her.

This is where it gets nasty. The seller freaks out. Seller has 133 total positives, 4 negs and 1 neutral. She emails a seller that he currently has bids with. She lies and says he ripped her off for the money. Not true. The seller has reported the email to ebay since it was done through "ask seller a question". Ok, now she has started with the vulgar language and threats of bodily harm. She has not yet pulled his contact info but he is worried she will. She is so disorganized that he does not believe she kept his address from his payment envelope. She has threatened to stalk his bids. Oh, and her husband is a big powerseller (big woop de dooh, righ? LOL)

I have read all of the emails. He has been nothing but professional in his emails to her. I realize the neg ticked her off. What can be done to report the threats? Will anyone actually do anything? Her address is a hotmail account. How can you find her ISP to report abuse? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Report those bodily threat to EBAY immediately.
THEN, contact her local police dept.
Just pull the contact info.
Fax copies of the email(s) to them.
Don't block the emails.
Make copies.
Just don't reply AT ALL!
Good Luck!

Everythying that liveuinjeans says is the way to procede. I would also set up a new account on ebay with a different name so the idiot can't stalk you.

I love these "my friends" scenarios. Did the seller already out your friends tongue ??

Any threats of bodily harm should be reported to their ISP and the police.

They'll probably have to take the report directly from your friend

My friend can't post here because he isn't registered. I offered to ask for him over here because most people are quite helpful. I don't think that I would have advised him to leave a neg but he did.

To those who offered advice it is appreciated. I don't know how you find someones ISP from a hotmail email address. Oh well.

edited to add..... of course the authorites would have to take reports directly from him. Do people not help others anymore? That is all I am trying to do.

You can't.

I am dubious about the "threats of bodily harm" and suspect this has been exaggerated to make the story more thrilling.

Posting the actual email would lend credibility.

(Oh, right, you don't have the email...this is for "a friend".)

Of course I believe people help other people

About getting the ISP from a hotmail... not sure, but can't you check the headers, and there might be some 'redirect' from the original ISP?? (and again, I could be wrong)

Nope. It's Web-based email, which means you compose the mail on a Web page and it goes directly to a Hotmail mail server. It doesn't pass go, it doesn't talk to your ISP's SMTP server at all.

That's both the beauty and the curse of Web-based email: it's portable (you can use it anywhere you can fire up a browser) and it's anonymous.
