I bought a Saki (sp?) today and don't read Japanese. Can anyone ID this maker? It looks like the same technique done on a nippon bowl I sold about a month ago but I don't know if that has anything to do with anything.
Thanks!

If you know it is upside down can you read it? I turned it around but it will take awhile for the photo to update to that.

Give me a hard one. That is Satsumi. Gold on a red background is always Satsumi. Sorry, I can't give you a era (year), but Satsumi has been around for 500 years.

Sorry I didn't chime in earlier. Food poisoning! OMG, it was the worst. Still trying to get the strength back.

It is modern Satsuma, but beautiful none-the-less. Once you've seen a few Satsuma pieces, it becomes unmistakeable. There are loads of collectors for it; even the modern pieces. My guess (and this is just a guess) would be no earlier than the 1960's.

Thanks, toasted! I'm glad to at least be able to look at food again. I know where I got it from (Georgios), but of course they refuse to take responsibility. I called them just to warn them. Oh, well I tried.

Cheryl, it might be this flu that's going around- my son has it- thre days now, At first I thought it was food poisoning and I asked my boy what he'd eaten, and it was nothing but good food that everyone else had had. And dear hubby is saying his tummy hurts now
Of course restuarants will ignore you- they want to make that money, first and foremostIt would take an epidemic and the inspectors coming down on them.

It was definately food poisoning. Once all the nasties were over (after about 12 hours), I felt fine except for being tired. On a good note, once I was able to crawl back to my computer, I did have some winning bids!
