Hi, I have a sony mavica camera, mvc-fd100. For some reason I can not take pictures of printed matter. for example the index or table of contents in a book, sheet music,or any writing that may be on an item. This never happened to me before, all other pictures come out perfectly. I must have moved something no matter how many times I change the focus and program all I get is something that looks like chicken scratch.I hope someone can tell me what I am doing wrong, and how to set it properly.
Thanks,
reenie

Hi Reenie,

I have also had problems with my digital (although I do not have this brand - mine is a Pentax Optio 330) but I've accidentally changed my settings so I couldn't get a close up shot. Does yours have a special setting for close ups that may have just gotten shut off? Have you checked the manual to see if there are some suggestions? If you don't have the manual or need some additional support, maybe you can check out this link and get some support on-line.

Good luck!

HI Lynn, yes I have the manual and it only states the different settings. It does not tell you what to use for what except distances. Mountain scene people etc. thank you for the link, I am downloading it just in case the troubleshooting may have my problem.
Ho, stop thank you yes It has a macro switch it shows it as a flower sample, they suggest it be used for close ups of flowers butterflies, etc. when I use it for what I want to, the picture comes out large and totally out of focus.

Do you have a manual focus/auto focus switch? Mine (different model mavica) is located on the left side just behind the lens. Possibly moved switch to manual?

Hi Max, yes I had it set in auto focus mode, this was getting extremely frustrating + I was just not happy with my finished product. I re-read my manual for the umpteenth time, and there was a little paragraph about taking movies, I do not use it for that but I thought I would go over it anyway. It stated that if writing was not clear you should change the rec mode to text, for both motion and still.I tried that what a difference and I am now a happy camper. thanks everybody,
reenie

Latte: Thanks for your post. I have had a Mavica (actually 3 now) since they first came out 5 years ago. I never knew there was a setting just for text. (guess I should read my manual too)

The latest manual for the little sony I bought gives me a headache. There are hundreds of settings and all I want is a clear picture. I messed up something and thought I had ruined it but finally got everything back to normal. I'm not changing a thing on that one, ever again. Everyone was out of focus in every shot!

But, using my old Mavica will save hours of typing in LP tracks on my records!

Hi stop,Yes it does and I am able to do that, the problem is even when I was looking through the lcd screen to take the photo it was fuzzy never clear and I always went to the sharp control but nothing seemed to work, I have started to take photos using the text mode, and they are coming out clear as a bell. The only thing I do not understand is, this is the first time I ever changed the mode, but my pictures were coming out nicely until I started to have problems.

Lindajean I feel like a kid with a new toy. I am going around the house taking pictures of everything that I put aside because they came out so badly. Each one is coming out perfectly, what a pleasure. On my camera the rec mode is under the title file. You have your choice of text, email or normal.

I can't wait for my husband to get home with the Mavica. I bought the new DCS-P10 for myself since I was having problems with the Mavica. But, it is real tiny and my old hands aren't as steady as they used to be so it takes longer to get the pictures taken.

Like you, my Mavica worked great and then one day it just quit. My husband is an insurance inspector and it takes great street views of houses, but close ups were blurred. I just thought the auto focus had gone out. Now, I can't wait to try the text mode. Hope it is all that was wrong. I really prefer the Mavica over the new one.

Hi Linda Jean, I take that back, the pictures looked terrific through the LCD screen when I put them in an album to take a look at them closely and to edit, they came out like negatives, it is truly a setting for movies. However I reset the mode button to normal, and it locked in and my pictures are now auto focusing like they use to I think for some reason or another the mode button did not have any setting and it just needed to be re-set. Maybe when I go up to format I might have knocked the setting off. Try this I hope it works for you, because I know how frustrating it can get.

There is a negative button down at the bottom of the camera. I accidentally turned it on one time and everything was messed up.

You should see all the settings on this new Sony I am lost when i get one of them messed up. But, as long as I leave it alone it takes wonderful family photo's. So, I will just use it for personal and hopefully, back to the Mavica for Ebay.

edited to add: I never could figure out why anyone would want to use the negative setting. Anyone else know why they offer it?

When I change to text mode in my Mavica, it changes the picture to black and white. OK for text, but not cool for objects.
