You may want to contact a good auctioneer. One who is familiar with firearms would probably have a good idea. But if you don't have a knowledgeable auctioneer, maybe you can do some general research on line.

Where the heck did you pick up this wonderful find? And is there a way to prove its origin? That would certainly drive up the price of it.

Good luck with it.

This is a rare relic of the past in the Movies. Check with some of the auction houses i.e. Sothebys, etc. Maybe worth mucho bucks.

A better site to determine its value is:

http://cherrys.com/

Collectors value & the price you get may not be the same. If you sell to a dealer you will not get top dollar, if you sell to an individual it is possible.

If you list it on a online auction, you cannot ship it to an individual out of state. It must be shipped to a FFL dealer (that has sent you a copy of the FFL).

You can sell it to a individual in your home state without the paperwork.

Best bet is to check the auction board for more details on the transfer.

www.gunbroker.com is another good site.

A hollywood memerbilia auction would be the place to go with it. Sothaby's or one of the big houses do them regularly. DO NOT ebay it. Once I had several Olympic Torches. I sold some on Ebay and got between $1000 and $1400. I sold one at an auction house and got $3500, even after the 20% I was ahead

Emailed Sotherbys but no reply

Hart is in his 80s now and he played in many movies since the 1930s, notably Hawkeye with Lon Chaney (I grew up watching him) and as the Lone Ranger during Clayton Moore's dispute with the studio. Moore was the original and John Hart played the Lone Ranger from 1952-3 I believe. It is John Hart's personal hunting rifle here, the Marlin Model 1898 long barrel 30-30. The autographed photo of John as the Lone Ranger standing beside his horse Silver and the personal letter indicating his ownership of the said rifle. I would expect that the rifle may go up in value when John dies as that's the way things go. His son Buddy Hart who starred on Leave it to Beaver as Wally's friend is now using the name Buddy Joe Hooker and is a well-known stunt man and coordinator
