I started dating this guy over the summer. One day we are looking on Ebay for his favorite childhood cartoon. We find one. I buy-it-now and give it to him.
The seller lets me know he has other DVD and the boyfriend tells me he wants the rest of the set. I buy them from seller. Boyfriend tells me will pay me right away.
Boyfriend breaks up with me. Tells me he is going to pay me back for DVDs.
I still have DVDs. No payment yet ...... Promises me every week he is going to pay me......
I decide to get rid of them.
Ebay is the only place I can think getting rid of them. The problem I have is that they are "copies". They shouldn't be on ebay to begin with. They are a couple of sellers on Ebay that offer these DVDS. There is bad blood among the sellers .....
So do I list them? Keep them and learn a lesson? What would you do?
Ladies, if you see a Derek Jeter look -a-like coming towards you, run......

Treat him like a customer tell him to pay up in 3 days or they are gone. The DVD's appear to be a link to you in case the "new" girl doesn't work out. Can't believe I'm ratting out my own gender!

I am out $115 .... It's not the money that has me upset. I am mad at myself for trusting someone I didn't very long. I am mad at myself for falling for "babe, I won't screw you over." The only longer I have these DVDS he still has an excuse to pop in and out of my life.
Thanks gang for listening.

Don't sell them on Ebay. There's no need of getting yourself in trouble for this guy. My "revengeful" side tells me to go along with Libra63. The mother side of me is another story. Give them to some H.S. kid or someone else who would appreciate them. It'll make you feel good that you did something nice for someone.
As far as the boyfriend... there are many fish in the sea that have not been caught. Any good fisherman would tell you that you always have to throw out a few of the bad fish. Consider yourself lucky, you didn't marry him, there are no kids involved, and you've learned a valuable lesson. Some folks haven't been that lucky. Best of luck.

I was thinking of donating them to our Holiday Party Door price. However I doubt anyone has ever heard of it. "Marine Boy". Does anyone heard of it?
I met someone else and the old BF is bent out of shape over it. He told me, in his own words "I am no longer interested in you" so I move on and he is upset over it. What ????? I really don't get men.
Thanks for listening.

Unless he pays don't give it to him. I would throw them away first! And, I like the idea of giving him xx days to pay up or lose them. (even if I tossed them in the closest river).
You don't need:
1. A constant reminder of a bad relationship.
2. him to have an excuse to keep popping back in your life!
Just my 2 cents worth

Get a Rottweiler. They are more loyal than most boyfriends and they love to use DVD's as frisbees.

Live and learn ... resell them if you're certain there will not be a reconcilation. ( there are a lot of fish in the sea, like you said though ).
There was a great line from the movie National Lampoon's Animal House after Flounder had borrowed his brother's Lincoln and the frat misfits totally destroyed it. The line went something like " Face it, you screwed up by trusting us. "

The Bad Me likes Libra's suggestions. The Good Me likes LindaJean's. Depends on which side of the bed I get up on.
I'd give them to a teenager, after giving this guy 3 days to pay up or lose them forever. Get him out of your life. Otherwise he'll just keep coming around.

When I bought them, I didn't know that they were made from a VCR copy. I thought I was getting a factory copy. Turns out the series was never released on DVD. Isn't it against the "rules" to sell homemade copies?

Right.
So here's my suggestion: Take the moral high ground (which IMHO is always best when dealing with an ex).
Next time he calls, tell him that you've had a crisis of conscience. You realize that you never should have bought bootleg copies but you were only trying to make him happy. Nevertheless, it was wrong, and you felt the only way to clear your conscience was to destroy the DVDs.
Thus: "So sorry, sweetie, I just don't have them any more. What we had was fun while it lasted but you're just not good for me."

Maybe so, but there is someone on eBay who sells Charlie Chan DVDs--and they're not officially on DVD, either...

Jusst to really stir the pot... Was the series in question ever aired in the US? Was the VHS series ever officially realesed in the US? If the answer to both of these questions is no, then there are no US copyright laws that apply to the production and ebay has no legal ground to stand on in terms of shutting them down.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Tell the EX if he wants them pay up now and be on his way.... IF not...
The EX can't be the only person to have heard of this movie. Find someone ELSE who'd appreciate then and give the DVD's to them instead.

What I would do is ..............if i knew he was out of my life for good then I would take them and donate them, just to get rid of them. I would not mention them anymore and go on with my life as though he never existed.
If, and when he did call I would simply tell him they are no longer here and dont call me anymore. Show him he means nothing to you and your going on with the living.
Money is nothing compared to a lesson that is learned, and I would say you did learn from this experience. So, GO ON Living as though he was just a shadow passing you in the night.... And as you said, "you worked to hard to have a problem with Ebay now"........so on to the next!!!!but smarter and wiser.

Well, stop, you must have had a short and happy life so far (congratulations!), because it's well worth $115 to get rid of some people compared to the time, suffering and monetary loss they can cause you later down the road.
