I have 14 items listed on eBay right now. On three of them I sprung the quarter for gallery pictures. Guess which 3 auctions have bids.

I have been on ebay for almost 5 years and have never searched by gallery or paid the slightest extra attention to gallery items. Sometimes it works against the item if the photo is poor or only shows one of a lot of several items.
I'm glad to see some sellers pay the extra 25 cents as it helps ebay make money but personally I find it a waste of money. Ebay may say that gallery items do better than non-gallery items but that is highly subjective as sellers will undoubtedly be more likely to add the gallery option for their better items.

I've also been on ebay for five years and I always use the gallery for buying and selling and I think it's worth the extra money.

I personally don't use the gallery, I think the gallery picture next to the listing is what's drawing the lookers.

I use gallery on some things, but some things not. Just depends on the item.

I'm leaning toward more and more things with gallery though, because I've noticed that when *I'm* looking for something to buy, those are the auctions I click on first/notice more. As slow as ebay is these days, sometimes I am just not in the mood to wait for an auction to load without having some idea of what's inside.

Might be a valid point. I have cable internet and the wait factor isn't present.

I've I'm searching on ebay and 200 results come up I quickly glance at the thumbnails to see what the general appearance of item is. That's the only instance where I even notice the tiny thumbnail.

Ace..

I'm on cable too, and ebay is *still* slow. It's the only site I have trouble with, and sometimes it's slower than dial up. I'd think it were my computer, except, as mentioned, every other site loads at a normal cable rate.

Ebay is the slowest site on the net alright. And they're adding more and more bells and whistles every day.

I use the gallery pic almost every time. But I'm really picky as to which of my 3 - 6 pictures will be in the gallery. After I've uploaded them on the auction description page, I look hard to see which one shows the best when it's SMALL as the gallery picture will be. I think that's the key. Then that's the one that shows up on the big auction list of all the similar items. I've had good sell-through for a long time now, with just a few off times, and I honestly think the picture choice and gallery pic contribute to that. Of course, I'm not usually selling high-end things, either, so I can only speak for the low-end seller like me!

I too, began to wonder if the extra .25 was necessary. And concluded yes because unless someone has time to surf and browse through all listed items, it does offer a quick view if they know what they are browsing for. (But maybe that could work against you, too, if they never open the auction to see the rest of description or pixs and skip to a red one, etc.,etc.?)

There's more than the thumbnail or title ( or subtitle ) on the search results page. There is the start price and or current price and bids too. That column gets looked at a lot.

On a seperate note: I wish ebay would put a blue tinted bar by all Reserve Auctions or Reserve Not Met auctions so they can be skipped by buyers that do not like Reserve Auctions.
